I'm looking to get a nice, slim-line 45 when I get back to the states. I really like the SIG option, but I'm also aware of the Mauser M2 that they are offering. Does anyone know about this handy looking little gun?

thanks for any input

I had an M2 once, nice gun. It's not slimline though. The grip feels very chunky. If you want something slim the P245 would be a better choice.

I know the SIG is slim if the P228 is any indication, but I'd like to stay comfortably under $500...

Glocks are a little too chunky in my hands and I don't like Kahr's prices. I hadn't really given much thought to the Smiths, though...never been a fan.

I used to own a Kahr back when they were resonably priced (for what they are) but I guess they've raised the bar since I've been overseas...

The Glock 36 is a single stack and is the slimest of all the Glocks. S&W has the CS45 or 457. Any of these you can get for under $500.

The M2 conceals well but I would make sure it fit your hand. I have medium size hands and the M2 was pushing the limit on width.

thanks, I'll look into both options...I just liked the looks of the M2 is all. And I figured I could get one for about 400...

Funny. It seems evey time I read on of these "Does anyone have an M2? How is it?" threads you either get a) no reply or b) someone telling you to check something else out. Why is that?

cheers

I've looked at M-2s, and was underwhelmed with the width. Also, I've heard that the rotating barrel makes it less accurate than one might desire.

I carry a Taurus PT-145 Millennium Pro that I'm tickled spitless with. It manages to stuff a 10-rd magazine into a handle that is slim and easy to grip.

If you're after something more service-sized, I'd also check out the new Taurus PT 24/7 in .45 ACP.

The Mauser M2 is accurate enough for its length. Remember, we aren't dealing with a full length gun here. It is short meant to hide well.

That being said, the only thing you must remember about the rotating barrel is to keep it well lubed. If it starts getting dry, it will jam up. This is true of any autoloader, but moreso of the M2.

I'd get it in .40 instead of .45. More velocity from the .40 and 2 more shots should you need them.

Interesting. You hardly ever hear anyone asking about the SIGARMS-imported Mauser M2 ...

I've only seen 2 of them come through our CCW classes, both chambered in .40 S&W. I have yet to meet another cop who carried one off duty in either my agency, or any other agency for whom we sometimes provide qualification services. One of the CCW users said that his security company had to send back several of their M2 .40 S&W pistols because of functioning problems, and they were returned with new barrels, after which they've been functioning fine.

The accuracy seemed decent enough for the defensive role of the rather compact pistol. I've never particularly been a fan of the rotary-action bolt design, myself. Some folks don't seem to like the magazine safety disconnect and manual safety, but those have never really bothered me since most of my S&W pistols also have them.

I fired one of the models a little, and while it seemed decent, it also didn't appeal to my tastes. I have enough other designs I find satisfactory for my usage.;)

Different strokes, though.

The M-2 has a decent trigger for being striker fired, but the grip ergonomics are even worse than a Glock. There is also the odd safety on the rear of the tang.

Rotating barrels seem to absorb recoil very well. If that is of interest, try a Beretta 8045 mini. Very high quality, but the grip is a double stack.

The S&W 45xx series are about the trimest high quality .45's on the market. I have been carrying a 4556 for years and have recently switched to the lighter 4553 w/rail.

I don't think you can get worse ergo's than a Glock.
This is certainly one thing the M2 does NOT suffer from. It actually fits my hand fairly well and I am very picky. The grip might be a little fat for a small-medium handed person, but I manage just fine.

I was thinking about one since I can't find a Steyr S40 at a good price.

I had an M2, HAD!!! The slide release would work out after 1 magazine, after 2 mags the slide release was almost 1/4 inch backed out. I first noticed it after my first 3 mags when it was almost 1/3 out! I promptly brought it back for a full refund after several magazines full and no end to the problem. I think it may have had something to do with the barrel rotating and working the slide release out. I also wasnt impressed with the accurcy as its best was 3 1/2 inches at 25yds benchrest for 5 shots. I tryed 5 different types of factory ammo, and most groups were in the 4 inch range or more.
