A search of completed sales on Gunbroker or other gun auction will give you a pretty good idea what's selling for what.

Ok thanks that what I usually go by, I just wondered if any of you knew of any books on it. I enjoy having reference books.

I have a 91/30, purchased two... one to tinker with, one to keep in the safe soaked in cosmoline.

I would like to shorten the barrel, as total gun is 48.5 inches long... not interested in buying another gun. I would like to take off 4-6 inches, and recrown barrel. Any ideas on optimum barrell length?
(besides just fitting in the gun safe without having to adjust the pistol shelf)?

Cob,

Optimum barrel length for what purpose..?

Much shorter than that found on the 91/30 and you're going to have a hell of a lot of muzzle flash unless you handload with fast powders.

I got a 1933 Tula, all numbers matching from buds, it was my first gun I ever bought.

I couldn't be happier with it, I just wish I could shoot it more.

Evening, fellas. Or should I say morning? :)

Found this thread out of boredom more than anything... time for a little good-natured threadnomancy.

Here are my contributions:
1942 91/30, made it into a PU. Love it! Re-shellaced the stock, too.

And a 1947 M44 with the worst stock I've ever seen. Leaving it how it is, though. Character and whatnot...

Fire-breather. :D

Most of these pics are lying around THR elsewhere, but now they're all consolidated.

I got the M1895 Nagant (made in 1940) last year, just recently got a Mosin to go with it. Paid $99 on Classic Arms for a 1931 production Hex receiver laminate stock one. It was their 'rifle of the day' and I'm very happy with how it looks.

On the CHEAP Mosin

My goal was to develop a rifle that older teens and folks from my church would want to buy/put together. Since $$ is a problem for a lot of these folks (many of whom have never had a firearm before) I did just about everything the absolute cheapest possible:

1. Homemade scope mount that has a see-through to allow iron sights as well. Less than $10.
2. Walmart $2 "flip flop" recoil pad (contact cement works great)
3. Adjustable cheek rest (3/8" bolts running in aluminum tubing stock, with a threaded insert and setscrew for adjustment, filed in flats) $5
4. Bent original bolt handle with welding torch. $0

Loads on fun on a budget and great entry rifle for possible deer hunter. Rifle is running right about 2MOA. Higher power scope might improve that. (4X) First group "meeting" is in 3 weeks and several signed up.

My 1948 Izzy M44. Last year of the M44, in pretty darn good condition (probably cause it was a rack queen :p ). I love my Mosin.

Tempest,

Must be the lighting and polish. On my monitor at least it looks heavy.

Went back and looked again, thinking I might have been seeing things through the fog of exhaustion, but nope, still looks large diameter!

Good job on it.

Regards,

Josh

Thanks, think it's an illusion as the barrel is thicker where I cut it. Many people ask that question.
