At first I was thinking I had bought a range toy and nothing else but this Shockwave has been growing on me.
Positive #1: This little gun with the birdshead grip is pretty fun to shoot, and I have been having a fun time learning how to shoot it. I just learned I needed to be patient and understand that I was a beginner with it. I like to shoot it against my cheek as shown in some videos online.
Positive #2: Originally I felt the gun was a little too much of a nitch gun to be useful, but I recently moved to a nice but small apartment and it’s a nice nifty little gun for a space such as this. This gun is extra easy to maneuver with and an attacker is much less likely to return fire if hit with a full power load of buckshot.
Change of plans #1: I was originally going to use this to track wounded boars when hunting or to carry in the woods. It can be used for that but for now I will prefer my full-sized Mossberg 590. My full sized 590 is still much easier to carry in low trees and brush than my scoped rifle and I can comfortably shoot 3 inch hardcast 0000 buck and 1.25oz Brennekke slugs in it. With the Shockwave I do not find the recoil of standard loads a problem but the muzzle flip and recoil are too much (for me) with the full power 3 inch shells. It is also probably true that while I can become very good with the shockwave I think I will always be more accurate with the traditional shotgun.
Change of plans #2: I was originally going to take it in my truck but unless my threat model changes I am not going to store it in my truck since I am concerned with theft. It is a good gun to have against a pistol if you do happen to have it with you though.
If you have a Shockwave or TAC-14 I’d love to hear about your experiences with it and what you use it for.
