The most accurate handgun I've ever tried.

I've owned dozens of different handguns and fired probably dozens more of every different type and configuration.

Finally after practicing at differing ranges with all my guns plus borrowed
and rented I've finally come to a conclusion.

Ruger P90 .45acp is the most accurate handgun I've ever fired.


I really wanted it to be one of my nicer guns but even with my bias against it the Ruger consistently shoots one hole groups at the exact point of aim
from 7 yards to 25 yards with factory ammo and reloads.

I think the Ruger is kind of clunky and maybe too big for a single stack 7 round .45. The trigger is funky, The inabliity to carry it cocked and locked is annoying as well. But in regards to acccuracy it wins hands down by a wide margin.

Has anyone else had this experience with Rugers Especially the P series?

I take it you have not fired the Springfield M1911-A1 "loaded" yet!!!

I have a P97. It does OK, but that Springfield has it beat all to heck and more!!!

The most accurate handgun I've shot is my Anschutz Exemplar .22lr bolt action pistol. With the right ammo it will consistantly shoot amazingly fine groups. The test target that came with the pistol has 10 rounds in a one hole group that is less than 1/2", shot at 50 meters.

check out my earlier post "P90 surprise". I've always fired my P90 close and fast; that's what I got it for. One day I decided to do a little bullseye shooting at 25 yd and I was amazed. And two-handed at that range it makes one ragged hole. Not supposed to be that way with an inexpensive, clunky gun, but it is.

I wonder if there's something about the ergonomics of that pistol that facilitates accuracy; maybe its distribution of mass produces less disturbance of alignment between hammer fall and bullet exit when you're firing slow, carefully aimed shots. I do know that I can't make it group as well firing quickly as I can with my G22, which is definitely less accurate when fired slowly and carefully.

That's a surprise. The most absolutely sloppy feeling clunker I've ever had the displeasure of shooting..... was a Ruger P90 in .45. Not to mention it was butt-ugly.

I'm sure there are a few that are nice, but Ruger autos just don't do it for me. Their revolvers are the shizznit, and I like most of their rifles, but BLAH on the autos.

Let me re-phrase it, the one I can shoot best is a S&W M17.
For an auto a Walther GSP. ...and I want to see it being outshot by a Ruger in centerfire.
Even though I have to admit that the Rugers shoot great for their price.

Centerfire semi auto: H&K P9s 9x19with CCI Blazers, followed by Walther P88 with handloads, on par with SIG P210.
Centerfire revolvers: S&W M14

Of course, there are too many fine guns out there to mention, Haemmerlis, tricked out 1911s, Manurhin .32 S&W Special revolvers.

Most surprising was the Star 30M for me, it shot a good 9 ring average in a bullseye training session.

My Wilson Stainless Protector is the most accurate gun I have ever shot. I really did not know how well I could shoot before I got it. I had an H&K USP Elite that was also a very good shooting gun.

I have a Ruger Single Six in 32 H&R Mag and a 6 1/2" barrel. My load is based on a Hornady 85 grin XTP. from a rest a 25 yards, I have had 5 holes touching and the 6tg just outside it. Byron

Most accurate gun for me is a Kimber Pro Carry,wow some shooting with stock sights! Next the Kimber UltraTen 11 + Kimber Custom TLE 11.Before the Kimbers it was My Sig 228 + BHP high power .40.Both shoot the same.In the small guns it is the Kahr MP9 not a Sig but for its size a great carry gun.

I've had the best results with the SIG P220ST, P226 9mm, H&K P7/M8, and certain 1911's.

I'm glad you found a gun thats really accurate for you. Guns are very individual and certain guns work really well for some and not for others. Although certain guns perform well for more people than others. I can't argue with the good results you got with the Ruger. The fact its a very reasonably priced firearm is a bonus for you.

Most accurate handgun I've ever shot was a Walther GSP. Better than using a computer mouse. Just point and click. After that, it'd have to be (in no particular order) a S&W Model 41, a hardcore customized Springfield tricked out for Bullseye pistol shooting, and then a Baikal IZH 46M air pistol.

My '70s, P&R'ed, five-inch barrel, Smith 27-2 is unbelievably accurate -- even with my old eyes and tired hands. Of course, it's not an autoloader, but your thread's title said "handgun" . . .

Mine was a Glock 21 rental at the range. Couldn't buy it though, cuz I didn't like the way it looked or felt the in the hand. I've had the best results with polymer guns but I just can't get used to the way they feel.

I think that just means you need to try more guns.



All the really good guns I've tried kind of blend together. Can't say I can tell the accuracy difference between a SIG P210, a Burns or Yost or old Clark custom 1911, or a SV Infinity. But I can tell that they are way more accurate than most off-the-shelf shooting irons.

The one Ruger P-series I've shot was pretty inaccurate... noticeably worse than the CZ-75B I had at the time.

There are 3 that are pretty much all in the running - a 6-inch Python, a 4-inch Model 29 and a Commander customized by King's Gunworks.

I have several of the better known ones; Sig 210, P7M8, Wilson, Colts of various flavors including the Spcl. Combat Govt. Also the HK P9S, Sig 226, Dan Wessons (including the 10mm Razorback #29), Pythons,etc. Anyway you get the idea.

Based on my personal experiences, I've come to the conclusion that I just can't shoot worth a damn! Most of my targets look as if I was shooting a shotgun with 00 buck.

Either my CZ SA Custom or my "ex" :banghead: STI Trojan.
Both are way more accurate than I am. The most accurate pocket pistol Ive shot and owned is this little monster. Its hard to really grasp how accurate this little gun is for a Makarov chambered Cz.
