Well folks, I wanted to start a thread about the most incredibly ridiculous price you have seen at a gun show or anywhere for that matter. For me, it was this weekend in Jackson, MS. I saw with my own two eyes on at least a couple of occasions Norinco Mak 90's on sale for between $1100-1300.00, yes thats right over a thousand bucks for a piece of trash mak...........what part of sucker being born everyday do they understand???? I will not go back to a gun show ever, ever, ever, ever...........at least until things get half way back to normal, if they do....LORD HAVE MERCY!!!:what:

Supply & Demand. Who would pay pay $4K for a Class III Mac 10, $18K for an M16, or $10K for a registered auto sear? Or $1 a round for surplus .223 & .308? Yes prices are crazy but when you have limited supply and enormous demand that's what happens.

BTW-I take exception to your comment that a MAK90 is a piece of trash. It is a robust, reliable rifle. I wouldn't pay $1K for one but it's a fine gun.

Well. I would not call a Mak 90 a piece of trash. I sure like mine. ;)

But $1100 to $1300, yea, that's pretty bad. I paid $400 for a LNIB Mak 90 along with a brand new 75 round chinese drum a few months before the election. Walked into my local FFL's shop one day and there she was. :)

Wish I had bought that slightly used .308 Saiga for under $400 along about the same time. :(

And if people pay it, it is BEAUTIFUL.

I love a free market like this. People are making money where there is money to be made. God bless them.

At the local gun show in my town, one guy was trying to sell a G3 for $4000 and a Fal for $3600. There was absolutely nothing special about them either. So far they've been sitting there for the last few shows.

The market sets the price, not the seller. An item is worth whatever someone is willing to pay for it. What the price used to be is irrelevant.

If people (the market) are willing to pay in excess of $1,000 for Norinco Mak 90s, then that's what they're "worth."

If people are not willing to pay the price, the seller must adjust his asking price accordingly, or go out of business.

Mike - How was the gun show in Jackson? I missed it ( the first show I've missed this year) partly because I spent way too much money at the Laurel show and partly because it was my daughter's prom this weekend.

Was this the small 250 table show or the 500 table show?

The Laurel show was great and I saw plenty of good deals - some I couldn't pass up on.

saw saturday--brown .308 battle pack marked $139.99 (being bought)
i still have a few left from 2005 i paid $25.00 each for

Gun Shows

I don't know about your areas but down here in Florida I have quizzed more than one vendor tactfully about their rather high prices on specific items. I have often been told something to the effect of "I really don't want to sell that particular gun but if anyone will pay the price I will suffer through it."
I'm sure in times such as these there is a lot of that going on and quite often the prices are being paid. In a year or two the buyers will either be glad they got it while they could or they will be selling for 1/2 price or less. Time will tell.

I bought a Mak90 2 or 3 years ago for around $400 with 4 brand new 30 rd mags, and that was $10 - $50 higher than if you looked around a little, but the guy was local and it was private party ftf, so I went for it. I can't imagine paying the $650+ I see em goin for now. It was a good gun, but not a great one. For that much money, I'd rather buy a great gun, like another Marlin 1895g.

The most ridiculous prices i've seen were Hi-point carbines for $300+, $250+ for hi-point handguns. $1000+ for a case of .223 or $750+ for 7.62

Mike2 has a point. If we pay the asking price that some place on tags as they smile with greed, they will raise them again. If we don't pay it, they WILL most definitely lower the price in time. Can you be patient, or will you jump in fear? If you don't think buyers can effect the price point, use your noggin and not your emotions.

Giving in is giving up, stand up and say no like Mike2 apparently did when he walked from the table whether window shopping or not. Say :neener: to the price gougers. There's plenty of sporting rifles sitting for sale at reasonable prices, I've seen them in the last week in two states.

I'm no Lemming!

SKS

i have seen a couple of SKSs set up like mine and the asking price was 550 on one .. and the norinco was 699... :what: if someone offers me 6 bills for mine. it is sold. LOL.. get a nice bolt gun for that.

I think it is ludicrous as well, but this is, at least in theory, a free market economy and will rightfully remain so for as long as we can keep Obama's socialist paws off of it. I like that, even if I detest not being able to find ammo for my M1A for less than $1 a round.

The simple answer is to stop buying. When people stop paying gouger prices, it will no longer be profitable to ask for $1300 for a Mak. Then prices will fall to more reasonable levels.

It's simple ECON101 stuff.

A Colt All-American 2000 for........$900.00, about 4 years ago.

Sam

I've seen these offered for $500 and $600 (seen two of them in the last 10 years). Even at that price I would not buy. At $900 at least you get the pleasure of laughing at the shopkeeper.

Unfortunately, the shopkeepers might be the ones laughing... all the way to the proverbial bank.

On a $900 Colt All-American? I don't know, but I don't think so. Any newbie is going to get a Glock for $350 less, because that is what everyone says to get. Any collector will know better. That leaves precious few suckers to pay $900 for a Colt All-American.

Even this guy is only trying for $549, and has no bids with only 16 hours to go before auction end:

The All-American is just about the only Colt that isn't actively collected BY ANYONE.
