the most underrated guns?

Tokarev T-33, 7.62x25.
Great caliber. And because of the trigger group and hammer group an upgrade to the Browning 1911 design. Not necessarily better just under appreciated.

As a general statement, those "under-rated" weapons got that reputation for a reason.

Yes, that is a broad statement, and I will stand behind it. My experience with many of these "under-rated" weapons (Taurus, Rossi, Kel-Tec, etc.) has shown me exactly why they are (and should be) so rated.

If you do some reading, you will likely come to the same conclusion. Individual peoples' experience will differ...but the preponderance of the evidence indicates that those who have a bad reputation...have earned it.

Bersa Thunder 9 & Thunder 380-reliable and very accurate IMHO. I'm looking for a Bersa .40 next................

Walther P99 and Steyr M/S pistols. They are the victims of poor marketing in the US.

The P99 has been pushed to the wayside as the S&W M&P series came out.
Steyr no longer imports M/S pistols.

The Hi-Point is one of the most underrated guns, or is it the most overrated, I mean... Oh what was the question again?

Hi-Point 45acp. Hardly elegant, it looks like something out of a bad Flash Gordon movie but it has been completely reliable. It could be more accurate but I'm shooting it. And all for well under two bills.

Hello friends and neighbors // Evertime I breakout my Stoger Luger 11+1 semiauto.22lr

Folks say "you got a real jam-amatic there"
Granted if I use cheap bulk ammo of various kinds(which I do:D) I may have a FTF,FTE or two. The Stoger has been my warm up handgun every time I go to the range, has fired tens of thousands of rounds and is still accurate.

I replaced a little ball in the safety once. The pistol was made in 1977.

In general I think all .22lr handguns and rifles are under estimated.

I'll say the the original Whitney Wolverine is underappreciated. They are jamless, dependable, accurate pistols with a fantastic trigger.

I'll also mention my Star Mod 30MI. It's the nicest shooting 9MM I've ever tried. A little heavy for carry but it's a great range or house gun for less than $350 and that's for a nice, nice one. It never jams on me. Takes 30 seconds to break down, too.

Interarms .... specifically the Virginian Dragoon.

My dad had one, and when my parents divorced it and the rest of his collection were sold for $1200, and there were at least a half dozen guns that would fetch that price by themselves.

I'm a cougar man. I did a lot of research before buying my first handgun. I bought a Stoger Cougar and love it. Less than $300 and fun to shoot. I plan to use it for a ccw in time. It is made in Turkey with the same equipment that Beretta used to make their Cougar, but not the price is about half of the Baretta.

both in brand and in gauge....

I own a psuedo "matched pair" of O/U shotguns, Silver Arms, in 410 and 28 gauge
apparently made by several different European gun makers over the course of time, and apparently not highly regarded

pretty guns, well made smoothbores, I like 'em
probably not in the same class as the most rugged, "big name" skeet & clay guns, but that I wouldn't know, not my game

the 410 of course, gets no respect, and the 28 obviously not well regarded amongst wing shooters
I myself have always believed the 28 is grossly underrated as a general purpose hunter (although it is certainly not a goose gun, you know)

for me, the #1 criteria in smooth bore is fun factor, and small gauge is always fun
shame these gauges are not more popular, it do put a premium on my shotshell prices
:(

Bashing the products of Kimber, Bushmaster, and Ruger seems to have become a popular sport in shooting forums. A great deal of this bashing seems to be based on rumor and gossip. Therefore I nominate these manufacturers products as underappreciated.

People bad mouth Taurus all the time, but they make a great product. My traditional pistol is a 1911, but I wanted a high cap 9mm so I bought a Beretta 92.

After trying a friend's Taurus PT-92; I sold the Beretta for the Taurus. Equal accuracy with a locked-and-cocked carry, a safety where I can reach it, and 65% of the Beretta's price tag.

I have been shooting it for at least 3 years and it has only jammed once one and on a LRN reload.

It has made it into my rotation of guns with my S&W M19-4 and my Colt Combat Elite.

Bersa Thunder 9, UC9, and .380. Their other models are probably underrated as well, but I only have experience with these two calibers.

-single shot .22 rifles
-.single shot rifles, period!
-single shot shotguns, including, yes, the .410.
-.22 rim fire pistols, both semi auto, and revolver.
-dedicated .38 spl revolvers.

...just to name a few....

it does surprise me to see the Bersa 380 mentioned so often in this thread
it is very frequently recommended on gun forums as decent quality, affordable, reliable, "best bang for your buck" candidate

as a 380acp CCW carry person, I do believe it is a good candidate

I did own one briefly, but I shot poorly with it, so after a few hundred rounds, I traded in back in (took a beating on trade-in of course). Not the gun's fault, my fault, it happens sometimes, a mismatch. I shoot Colt Government model 380 far, far better, and I just won't put hundreds of man-hours into learning to hit well with a handgun that I do not shoot "acceptably well" right out of the box. Too many others than can and do work for me; don't fight it, just find it.

-Turkish-made shotguns in general. Doubles, autos, etc.

-Bersa Thunder series, yep

-Steyr pistols, absolutely

-CZ pistols, CZ rifles, CZ anything - they've come a long ways, but are still a bit underrated

-T/C Icon rifle

-Old used guns (rimfires, centerfires, revolvers espec. .38s, etc.): Cheaper AND better than many things made today. Love getting a 40 year old .22 for under $100 that shoots like the dickens and that has NO plastic and NO aluminum anywhere on it!

-Taurus, yes definitely

-Leverguns in general are underrated in this 'tacticool' era

-FEGs & Arcus, yep

-I'd say the Savage 24 combo guns were underrated since they quit making them
