I read a very disturbing editorial by Nicki Fellenzer at Armed Females of America, which named names and gave source quotes, about how the NRA is selling gunowners & Second Amendment supporters down the river.

Since I'm both an NRA member and a strong Second Amendment supporter, this upset me. I'd rather not fight with my friends, and I'd sure like to believe that the NRA are fighting tooth & nail for my rights, but...

Are they being French "friends"?

Help me decide. Any factual evidence (like some links) will help a lot!

Here's the link:

And here's how it begins:

Editorial: How the NRA Bargains Away Our Second Amendment

It is with a heavy heart that I write my column this week. I write it as a columnist for Armed Females of America – a tireless proponent of the principle of 'no compromise' when it comes to our freedoms. I write it as a Featured Writer and Newslinks Director for KeepAndBearArms.com – an organization dedicated to the principles of defending our Second Amendment rights fully, completely and without negotiation, concession or conciliation. And I write this column as a member of the National Rifle Association. It is this last membership that makes it so painful to convey this story, but I feel I need to convey it to all of you – whether you are NRA members or not. You need to know the truth about the largest organization of and for gun owners in the country. You need to understand that the biggest doesn't necessarily mean the best, and that the political clout of an organization that allegedly claims to support and defend gun owners in the United States, doesn't necessarily work in your favor or to protect your rights....

Like they say, read the whole thing.

I'm looking forward to seeing your comments-

Esky...

This article has already been posted and cussed and discussed in the Legal and Political Forum (at least, I think that's where it's at).

My take on it is that to be sure there are some problems at the NRA (name one big organization that does not have problems) but the NRA is still the premninent organization on the political scene fighting for our rights.

How many times have you heard Wm Jefferson Clinton blame the GOA or KeepandBearArms.com for the defeat of the Democratic party in the last election? How many times did yous ay???

While most SA organizations do try to do some good, a good indicator of who is considered the most important is who gets mentioned the most by the opposition?

In my (not so) humble opinion, the NRA's detractors are playing game of micturation on the big dog for some personal (and probably pissy) reasons. They do not seem to realize that the more devisive we are on our side, the better chance the other side has of advancing it's agenda.

You don't need the suit with me. And i ain't gonna bother with one myself because if they don't like what I say they can try to explain to me just how tearing down another organization will make theirs better.

Duh! I did too look, but didn't see

Well, I'm glad this is being discussed, I actually did look to see if it was here but just didn't see it. Can't be senility yet, can it? Can it? It can? Oh darn....

So please don't post here, but go to the thread that FPrice pointed out (thanks for the link mate!)

Here it is again: http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=25329

FPrice,

Micturation?????

You don't know how many dictionaries I had to use to find out the definition of passing or making water (urination).

Thanks for the laugh.

All politics constitute some form of compromise, I've noticed over the last 48 years (OK, so maybe I've only been aware of it for 43 years or so, I discount the first 5 years of my life as being totallly ignorant of such things... unless playin Mom off against Dad to get the candy and toys I wanted counts).

Still and all, working with the devil you know is better than dealing with the devil you don't know.

They'll continue to get my support and money till someone vastly better equipped to deal with the local, federal and universal political machinery comes along.

Adios

The NRA is a political organization. To survive as such it must be willing to compromise in order to promote its agenda by give and take. Compromise is one of the founding political principles of American society right back to the Constitutional Convention.

Some people are absolutists and can't handle that. There are lots of highroaders that think this way. And you can't make some folks happy. You just can't, read the news stories posted on these very forums and you will see why.

More laws = stupid fascist government... the NRA must stop this... all we need is more law enforcement...

NRA botches something = stupid NRA, they are worse than useless...

More law enforcement = stupid fascist cops pushing around the little guy...

Cops save someone = I always support our boys in blue...

Military researches new tech = we should have that but the military doesn't need it...

Leftist media editorial = stupid leftist hypocrits, they should be consistent like us :scrutiny:

The truth is that the NRA is politically to the left of many of the people on this forum, but only because most of those people are so far to the right wing that they think John Ashcroft is a pinko liberal. Shrugs. Whatever. I'm sure I'll be flamed for this.
