"Plastics son!" The future is plastics???? Seems like all the "innovation" lately is who can press their plastic...errrr...polymer the fastest :scrutiny: Can anyone work steel anymore?

Is this a rhetorical post?

:uhoh:

Yeah seems like tons of new polymer models lately. Guess what constitutes innovation is highly ymmv. I for one fully endorse it.

A huge percentage of the pistols in the market fall into one of two categories(in reference to frames):
Plastic
Aluminum

To me, nothing beats the feel and handling of steel. Preferably carbon but I don't mind stainless.

I'd have to agree with you. Not a whole lot has happened as far as innovation goes. All I see is one company copying another.

I can proudly say that my plastic beats all your steel gun.
Not once my plastic jammed on me, while my steel had to be sent back to Geneseo :D

Plastics have huge advantages in manufacturing costs and depending on it's formulation can have signifigant benefits in many roles that the makers of the guns will focus on far more than how many wear tools and parts they can omit from their production lines. Bottom line is it's easier to make a good affordable gun with plastic than anything else. You can make a crappy all metal gun too, just ask Bryco . . .oh wait, they're out of business ;)

Ya, plastics are the trend in manufacturing due to it's low costand the gun manufactures are just coming to the same conclusions as the people making vaccuum cleaners. Plastics, composites, and their varients are here to stay in the gun word and will probably keep getting more prevelant as steel starts falling by the way side.

When was the last time you see HK owners complaining about feeding, extraction, or return to battery or jamming problems?

Good point...though you neglected to mention firing pin bushings...

I like my plastic guns. Have you ever left a steel framed gun on a table in the sun. I promise you'll ruin the finish when you drop it after about a second.

I will concede that steel guns look better and higher quality (by and large) than plastic ones but they aren't necessarly better. For the average Joe who leads a life outside of LE and carries the usual assortment of everyday crap (keys, change, cell phone, Leatherman, etc.) do you really want to add the weight of a steel framed gun to your Dockers? Plastic guns give the option to still carry wonderful amounts of firepower without carrying a brick (weight) around.

Carry what you like, that's your call, but cost isn't the only reason for plastic guns or anything else for that matter.
