The recoil of a 45-70 isn't that bad right?

I need to put a scope on my NEF 45-70, I didn't really want to, but the stock is monte carlo and makes it difficult to see with the rifle sights. Also it shoots consistently 8" low, and I can't adjust the sights anymore.

So I want to put a scope on it, and although I don't think it would be a problem the gun does have quite a bit of recoil. I was looking at the Leupold VX-I, or the Leupold Rifleman. I don't really want to spend a lot of money on a scope, I just want something good quality. That can handle the recoil.

Also since I have this thread made. I am going to buy a scope for my dad's muzzleloader. I was thinking of getting him one of the ones I listed before, or perhaps the Leupold shotgun scope.

Or should I get the shotgun scope for my 45-70. I was thinking of getting 2-7x for both of them. or Maybe 3-9x for his muzzleloader. What do you guys think?
