I am about to purchase a new rifle not for hunting but more for plinking and urban combat situation I am looking at the Ar-15 or the VEPR2 model Ak-47. any sugestions?

What are you more comfortable with? Both are suitable combat defense weapons, each has characteristics which will prove satisfactory as combat defense weapons. Ammunition for each rifle is roughly about the same cost. Each has combat characteristics which are important choices for you to make. No one is taking my milled receiver Bulgarian AK from me! I have more than 10,000 rounds of ammunition for my battle rifle here with me. I appreciate .223 ARs also, but believe my .30 ammo is more effective when push comes to shove.

I have only shot the AR and from my understanding and I could be wrong the AR is more accurate than the AK but it doesnt have the same knock down power obviously the AK is a 7.62x 39 or a .308 and the ar is a .223 but the guy at the gunstore told me I couldnt get a thirty roung mag for vepr AK.

M16 has the accuracy so they say and the AK has the dependability but the accuracy of the vepr is pretty good. I know a guy who is shooting a six inch shot group a 300 meters with a bulgarian AK.

Intersting so is it ture that the 30 round mags dont exist or cant get them for the Vepr II. And in a combat defense situation which one would be more practicle I know the ARs collapsable stock would make it a little more manuverable.

My advice, pick a platform early on and stick to it. If you do this it will allow you to stock a few thousand rounds for your plinking and urban combat/SHTF guns. If you have 3 different guns chambered in different calibers your going to be buying lots of different kinds of ammo.

AR has the accuracy, I will not doubt that for a minute. Accuracy comes with tighter tolerances and thats where reliability "can" suffer. Im not saying a well maintained AR will jam or fail......but I suspect an un-maintained one will.

AK doesnt have the accuracy the AR does but its definitely combat/plinking accurate. I suspect unless your at a match or shooting from a bench you wont notice "that much" difference - but its been awhile since Ive shot my AR. The AK has the reliability edge in "less than favorable" conditions but I dont see many of us in those conditions.

Just depends on what you want. They arent as opposites as you would think......

I have a few AKs - this is what I choose for plinking/SHTF. The bonus here is there are plenty of cheap guns chambered in 7.62x39 - pick up a few SKSs for handouts and you can arm a few people if necessary with ammo commonality.

As an American I feel it is your patriotic duty to support American gun manufacturers.
Buy the AR15.

Well, there are quite a few gun manufacturers right here in the USA that make AK47s as well. That folder was made my Vector Arms out of Utah using a receiver from Global Arms out of Texas.

Buy the AK47 and supports them two at a time.

I tire greatly off this AK47 is unAmerican crap.....
