I wonder how many folks are like me, your first experiencing shooting a gun, perhaps of any kind, was shooting a Ruger 10/22. I was a really young kid when I pulled the trigger for the first time, and I've been addicted every since.

What do you like most about the Ruger 10/22? Least?

What kind of ammo have you found works the best?

Have you/do you use Ruger's extended magazine for it? The cheaper ones from third parties have given me nothing but problems.

Here's a video I made on the 10/22.

We have 1 Ruger BX25, a plastic lipped aftermarket 25 rounder, and a metal lipped aftermarket 25 rounder. Surprisingly, the one we have had issues with is the BX, only with LRN bullets. Probably an issue with the bullets, but the same crappy bullets fed fine in every other magazine we have.

Like Most: Low price, lightweight
Like Least: Nothing, love it.
Ammo: Anything aside from the one issue we had above. Otherwise, it eats any ammo we put in it.

The only thing I don't like is the lack of a last shot bolt hold-open. I hate running dry and not knowing it. That didn't keep me from building four of them and one of them twice.

For plinking, hunting and general purpose use, I like Remington Golden Bullet hollowpoints. For long range use, Wolf MT.

my 10/22 detests golden bullet, so does my 22/45. I guess Ruger 22s are just finicky eaters even with new aftermarket extractors.

Buy a Marlin 795...your 10/22 won't seem so picky afterwards. :D

I dunno, I like my 10/22...I sort of preferred the controls of my Marlin, and the synthetic stock felt better, plus it was a bit more accurate...but the 10/22 is the .22 to have. That's why the Marlin is no more. BX-25s are excellent, and I feed CCI Standard Velocity through mine without a single issue. Maybe 1 malfunction in 1200 rounds.

Not me, I was 14 when it came out and had already been shooting for 9 or 10 years. I have never seen the point of the 10/22 and making a hobby of trying to make it shoot decently. Of course, I already had a Marlin Mountie when the 10/22 hit the shelves, so I was spoiled and pretty much set for life with a good gun.

All of mu Rugers eat the Goldens right up. Yeah they are very dirty and occasionally have FTF but for $16.50 for a box of 525, you can bet I'm buying them! My 10/22 feeds them better than my MKII's. Ruger is famous for being able to feed most bulk ammo. I've even ran Thunderbolts through my 10/22 before. Not a hiccup, but I had to completely strip the trigger assembly down and clean it because it was filled with crud 013.gif

I wouldn't call 0.30"@50yds "decent" but maybe your scale is different from mine. How much experience do you have with this rifle you seem to loathe so much? Have you ever built a good one, or are you just throwing an opinion out there to hear yourself speak???

Why do you intentionally try to spoil every single 10/22 thread that gets posted? If you hate them so much, why even jump in the discussion, if all you're gonna do is try and pee in everybody's cornflakes???

I have three in different configurations for different purposes and stock 5 different kinds of ammo for them.

Remington subsonic hollow points for plinking with the carbine
CCI AR Tactical for consistent range fodder
Aguila Interceptors for hard hitting best penetration
CCI segmented Stingers for small game
Piney Mountain tracers just for fun

The lightweight plinker:

The tack driver: Different scope these days

Don't seem to have a pic of the other one. Nothing special to see, a black composite Dragunov style stock and a custom 16.5" fluted aluminum barrel, 1:20 twist, threaded.

I own a Ruger. It is a fine tin can plinker. However, as far as stock, unmodified guns go I have other semis that are more accurate and just as reliable.

Here's my 10/22 with its Archangel kit:

I use the BX-25 exclusively because I cant get the 10 rounders out :cuss:I have had a problem with ammo (Winchester or Remington bulk), not with the magazine but the gun will NOT chamber properly. I use Blazer round nose and clean it alot and everyone is happy...out to about 180 yards anyway, then who knows whats gonna happen?

This is my favorite plinker and gets between 100 and 500 rounds a week.

Whats NOT to love indeed

Don't care for them personally, but then I don't really care for semi's much, only have one semi and its a Marlin model 60. I like tube fed personally, for the record my buddies 10/22 was neck in neck accuracy writes with my Marlin mountie. My only question with all the mods to barrels on the 10/22s, is that uncommon(we were posting cigarette diameter groups at 25yds) . Thankfully there are different guns to choose from.

Bought a used one for conversion to .17hornady mach II. Didn't like the offcenter recoil spring and .010 slop in the bolt handle which would have meant .010 recoil before bolt mass would be engaged. The stock was perfectly smooth and difficult to hold with arthritic hands. Never misfired and seriously considering buying the takedown model with plastic stock.

If you're not interested in aftermarket parts, there are better stock rifles out there.

I've been very disappointed in the receiver finishing on my all-weather 10/22

This. They finally got around to making an extended mag release standard too. I like them.

I have the target model. Jams so often I want to throw it away. My first carbine that's a beater on the floor of the jeep never gives me problems.

I need a project. I will pay shipping and $20 for lunch. :D

I'm still a member of rimfirecentral if that counts. I was a teenager when they were introduced and some folks started trying to make them halfway accurate. It seemed sort of silly to buy a gun to work on when for the same money you could just buy a gun that would shoot. To me it still does. I own some nice bolt actions, old ones, newer ones, cheaper and expensive, including a Cooper. I have an opinion.

What's your problem? The OP asked for opinions and I was giving mine so others could read it. Jeez, did you get out of bed on the wrong side this morning? Don't get so defensive, did I insult your dog or someone important?
