The RUGER OLD ARMY Club

Sunday, I have to shoot the Revolver Aggregate in the NMLRA/NC Territorial Match here south of Fayetteville.

I think I'll use my Ruger "Old Navy":D, .36 caliber fitted with a 9MM octagon barrel and Bo-Mar rear & front sights & Herrett walnut checkered grips.

18 grains of Schuetzen (German) 3FG black powder, cream of wheat filler, .380 RB, and topped off with a dab of T/C Bore Butter.

10 shots slow-fire, 25 yards, 30 minute relay,
10 shots time-fire, 25 yards, 10 minute relay starting with five chambers loaded,
10 shots slow-fire, 50 yards, 30 minute relay,
all one-hand hold shooting position.
30 competitors 3 feet apart, shooting at the same time as me.

Hopefully it's not quite the burdensome task your chosen words "have to" imply. If the shooting isn't fun and enjoyable, I'd recommend rethinking the venue.
I'm guessing you didn't mean it that way, but words we choose can offer insight into feelings we haven't quite recognized yet.

Good Luck Shooting!

If one is a competitor, "one has to...."

It is fun, but not in the strict sense of the word. There is the challenge before you to win against your fellow competitors, but in truth, you are only competing against yourself.

Competing infers practicing, researching, improving, gaining, and accomplishment.

Came in third in the Revolver Aggregate.

I just need to spend more time with my "new" .36 caliber Ruger "Old Navy". It worked for the previous owner, he won the NMLRA National Pistol Championship in '97 with the help of this little "jewel".

I did some bidding on -bay. I picked up an inline capper and a round flask. I was second guessing myself as far as the price. When it showed up, The inline capper was of far superior quality, twice as thick as the current offering, very sturdy as was the CVA marked flask. This was a package deal and It almost went over what it would have cost new. I have never minded spending good money for a good product.used or not,was pretty happy with the purrchase....Larry

as much fun as all of the different bp guns are, it's pretty obvious that the guys here are ROA fans by a long shot. according to the stats, there have been 311,259 views of the ROA thread, with the next largest number coming in at 6,272. considering how much fun the ROAs are to shoot, it doesn't surprise me at all. sure wish Ruger would reconsider and start building and selling new ones. I'd love to have a factory ROA with a Bisley gripframe and grips. the difference between the ROA and my Vaquero Bisley is notable.... yeah, I could probably almost destroy one of my favorite weapons by trying to smith it to accept a different grip, but that's a dangerous and costly endeavor for a fumble fart like me....

I took my ROA out for a test drive today. It have been 30 years since I have owned and shot a C&B revolver. This is a different kind of shooting. I fired 24 rounds down range in the hour.Reloading wasn't an inconvenience,It was part of the fun. I am looking forward to taking this pistol to camp in august ...Larry

I have gotten some great deals on Ebay buying b/p lots, ended up with many things I didn't need, but overall got many needed parts and accessories that way, just know the new prices of what you want out of the lot and don't go over. I have also seen lots of very used items go for far more than new, buyer beware!:banghead:

It's enlightening. Somehow the extra steps (bother??) of shooting a cap and ball revolver frees one from the emotional constraints of cartridges.

Welcome back into the philosophical fold.

Finally Got a Picture on this post, I've been trying since December. Hope I'm finally be in the ROA Club. WFH

Felixmophandle,

Went to a gun show in Nashville a few weeks ago and at the end of one of six or eight rows of semi automatics and AR weapons was this ROA 5 1/2" fixed sight revolver. Only black powder pistol at the whole show. Had a price tag of 495.00. I asked vended what his bottom dollar was and he said 395.00. I dished it out right then. Also got nipple wrench and box. Gun has never been fired ....YET!!!

Those of you guys who are still getting your ROA's at ridiculously low asking prices are one lucky bunch !! The sellers must be quite un-informed, drunk, or just plain [I don't know] !! Any Old Army at below $500.00, a bit new or good used is a bargain today, actually a steal in its own right. And getting a bit harder to find in pristine and 'Real' never been shot pistols. They are out there, kept away. And those that do surface in 'REAL New' condition are commanding high prices, AND getting sold !! Yes, there are those who would pay this prices! All of the sellers that I have followed and watched........ and lo and behold, gone, sold, bingo !! So hold on to your ROA's........... and no, don't even dream that Ruger will ever bring it out again ! Nope, here let's have a beer, and quit this day dreaming ! .....as an example, here is one you can follow if you want........ http://www.gunsamerica.com/90036154...inch-barrel-in-mint-never-fired-condition.htm .......... sounds ridiculous right, well watch him sell it !! ...........Yay !! ........best regards folks, keep 'em smokin' !!

Wf that was a real steal for a 51/2" model, and unfired, the short barrel models are getting crazy prices everywhere, good luck and post pic's!
:what::what:

Just got home today and opened up the safe. Put on my white cotton gloves, and pulled out my 5 1/2 inch blued barreled fixed sight. Caressed it good, smelled it, looked into the bore well [you never know if an insect got in there and defecated while dying corroding the lands and grooves !!] and after a short chant, put it slowly back away. Now to put on another pair of gloves, and a sterile face mask, I gently remove my Original factory 5 1/2 inch blued model WITH original adjustable sights and lay it down onto a soft pillow. "How are you my friend. Sorry, I have not found you a twin brother yet". "It is ok to be all alone, I'm always here with you."..........I chant the secret Ruger creed, and very gently, put him away again. ........... Hold on to your nice pieces friends, but fire away those 'shooters' like hell !! ........... Ahh, that holy black smell. ..........like no other !!

Mr D,buck, thank you very much Sir....Larry
