^^ Others will no doubt weigh in, too, but I think $400 for an excellent condition stainless steel specimen is about right. Less than that would be a very good deal ... and I might go as high as $450 if LNIB.

Legionnaire hit the nail on the head, although they seem to be going for slightly more on the auction sites, though they usually make 2 to 3 rounds if the reserve is much above $450. My 1st SS model was $275 about 4 years ago and it was unfired although the seller said only it was in good condition. My most recent was $300 and has some pitting in the barrel, apparently a squib that was left in awhile, it shoots true and looks good from the outside.

Ive had this one for 2 years and not fired it yet. I need to change that real soon. I used to have one of these years ago but i cannot remember what the charge and powder should be. I also used to mold my own sweet looking hollow points for this gun. I need to find out what mold and get it on order asap.
I was told mine was a bit special the top strap has engravings on it, anyone knopw about this?

Well HP's can be made 3 ways that I know of and I've done all 3. There was a single cavity mold by Lee for the ROA that was available in HP. I saw one go for a ridiculous amount on eBay. Remember, ROA's take a bit bigger bullet than a regular 45.
The best conical bullets are, IMO, are from Dick Dastardly at Biglube.com. The 210 shoots great and was designed for the ROA.
I then decided to see what an HP version would shoot like. I bought a really nice jig from one of the folks on another forum. It works but is time consuming and you have to be very, very consistent.
I then bought a swage die that put a consistent HP in it. The issue here is that it's a little slow plus you're smooshing a bullet that has already been cast and lubed I'm not sure that's the best way to do it.
I then sent my BigLube mold to "Hollow Point Mold Service" and had him make 3 of the 6 cavities Hollow Points. This just worked out great. It's major issue is that now you have a lot of money invested in a mold. The jig/drill press and swage method can be done to any bullet.
BigLube also sells a 150 gr bullet that works really well in the ROA.
Also, you need a loader if you intend to shoot bullets. You'll drive yourself crazy trying to load bullets using the loading lever.

I saw these ruger collectors model offered for a premium 150.00 more than the average resale,all the more reason to keep it ,if you want to shoot it just fill each cylinder with as much 3f black powder as will fit and seat a .457 ball over it cap with a cci # 11 primer and kabooooooooooommmm!!!but if you go to the ruger web site you can download a copy of the r o a owners manual (recommended),any substitute will suffice,use 777 3 f for maximum performance=mv of over 1000 fps,energy exceeding 500 ft lbs,pyrodex makes an mild load in their pistol pellets which are 30 grain with a wad and a conical bullet or ball makes a good cowboy action load and the pellets stay fresh for years in the jar they come in,but they are a bit pricey,the pellet pushes the ball at about 900 fps,and a 200 gr conical about 830 fps or less...............shoot it youll be glad you did........take a loved one and make some smoke......

I recently acquired this Ruger Old Army. It has custom grips with the right grip having a wolf scrimshaw on it. The hammer has been jeweled and the barrel length was shortened (?) to 6 5/8" (measured from face of cylinder to nozzle end). These mods were not done by me and I'm wondering if it was a special order from Ruger.
This other Ruger Old Army I bought off of my good buddy who fell on hard times. He'll eventually buy it back from me I'm sure. It also came with an R&D Drop-In Conversion Cylinder 45LC

Ive often wondered what my blue r o a would look like if i removed the black anodise from the grip frame,cause a few marks on an otherwise pristine example of an r o a ,now i know it would look fine.......as yours does, your friend is not on that bad of a roll if your his friend, ps dont get too attached to that ss roa they are the best............

ROA spart parts?
Howdy to the Club,
Was practicing the other day, and when I thumbed back the spur of the hammer. The Spurr fell off the hammer!
Two things; has this ever happened to anyone else? And what might some sources be for spare parts? I've tried the usual suspects; Ruger themselves, Brownells, and Midway. Is there some individual who has taken on the opportunity to supply hight quality spare parts for our beloved revolvers?
Suggestions anyone?

Bill get your spur and hammer together to a welding shop, decent workmanship and some patience ought to have you up an runnin' soon, it may be a good excuse to end up with one o them Bisley style hammers. Sorry for your loss,

What answer did you get from Ruger, they have always been customer friendly, however I know they discontinued the ROA, but they had some parts on hand the last time I called them, course that's been a few years.

I came into possession of a BP 5F today. It is in almost excellent condition and I am pretty sure it has not been fired more than a dozen times. I picked it up with the intention of selling it but I am not sure now. The more I check it out, the more it grows on me. It feels like it was custom made for my hand. I can pick up my target without effort.
Anyway it came with the original box, owners manual, a nipple wrench and powder flask. The serial number is 148-10177 and it looks like it was made in 2008 or so.
Is this something I should hang on to, or should I sell it as I originally intended? Would it hurt the value if I went out and fired it a few times or should I avoid that?

What's a BP 5F? Is the powder flask a Ruger? I have seen 1 at a gun show, years ago and they wanted more than the price of a ROA for the flask. It must have been custom, as I've never seen any Ruger ad with their logo flask.

Google is our friend! BP-5F is a Ruger catalog number for a blued ROA 5.5 inch bbl. Fifty year commemorative. .
Yes, BP-5F is the model number, or catalog number of the 5 1/2" barrel, fixed sight Old Army; it applies to commemorative and regular issues.
If it's already been shot, go ahead and enjoy it as it was intended to be used. Keep the box and paperwork, however, as they have their own value beyond the gun, and significantly enhance the gun's value when combined.
