A rough guide to our fine country's law as concerning carried knives:

Blade must be under 3".

Blade must not lock. (However, you can claim that the lock is there for safety, making this rule a bit daft, but they'll try to get you for it anyway)

You must prove that you hae a good reason for carrying it. Depending on your job, you might be able to finagle something...

The less evil it looks, the better.

Regardless of the circumstances, if you use it for self defense, they will try to prosecute you. And if the BG lives, you'll get sued as well.

Congrats on leaving, BTW. Wish I could come with...

I carry a Spyderco Tenacious....it has a G10 handle that fits my large hands like a glove. It's relatively inexpensive, so I don't mind using it at work.....the combo edge comes in very handy at the machine shop. Also got spyderco folders for all three of my sons....Great Value at a fair price (here in S. Florida, the Tenacious runs about $50) Good luck with your move, and happy hunting!

"At that point you may very well consider what place the knife has in self defense at all. I've carried some kind of knife for 35+ years, and the longer I've had one, the less I have "relied" on it. They don't really offer stopping power, stand off distance, or social acceptance by the courts.

Awareness and a good walking stick can offer a lot more - food for thought."

A conclusion I came to long ago.

Original poster said they were in England.
Oh, this thread is six months old.

Folks, the UK has strict knife laws.
Restrictions include NO locking knife.

I don't have a problem with folks recommending knives, and sharing pics, still we need to keep in mind where folks live and knife restrictions.

May I suggest folks go to British Blades to learn about the UK knife restrictions, and the definitions and interepretations.
Why?
Because the same playbook is already being used in the US.
