(No, that's not the title of a Simon & Garfunkel album from an alternate universe in which the sensitive '60s duo were heavily into rimfire varminting.)

Anyway, I'm new to CCI Stingers, though I've shot through many a box of CCI Mini-Mags over the past few years. Fired a box of Stingers through a Ruger Single Six the other day and was quite pleased with the results. Good shooters. More accurate in that revolver, shooting unsupported, than the std. velocity Eley Club Xtra target rounds.

One thing that gives the hypervelocity Stingers charisma is their report, which has a different timbre from most of the rimfire I've used. Stingers go "blam!" rather than the flat "crack" of my usual std or high velocity .22s. I enjoyed that.

The lube on my box of Stingers was heavy, visibly congealed on the bullet tips and filling the hollowpoints. Is that normal? Wouldn't surprise me if so. Fast-moving bullets presumably need more lube.

There's some questionable rimfire ammo out there. I've had a few dubious experiences with Winchester Super-X and Federal AE bulk pack. The good CCI ammo delivers experiences about as far from that as possible. I'm just a plinker, but Mini-Mags, Velocitors, and (so far) Stingers have all given excellent uniformity, reliability, and accuracy in my rifle and handguns.

Stingers are OK

You should see them out of a little bitty Walther TPH! A Light and Sound show to be sure. Thousands of Mini Mags and hundreds of Stingers without a dud here too.

It has been that way in my experience. I used to carry Stingers in a Beretta 21A before I sold it. After having a ND in my apartment and seeing that they wouldn't penetrate a wooden table (in fact, the bullet disintegrated) I stopped carrying .22LR. However, I don't think that's a Stinger problem. I found it to be as accurate as bulk pack ammo with much more velocity and a nifty bang/flash.

you like the blam ?????

swap the cylinders to the 22mag and load up on ccI +v+

I think I got a tan at the indoor range with that. Flashier than 125's out of
my 4" .357.

As I recall, Stingers have a muzzle velocity around 1600fps. Your Mini-mags run about 1200fps. That'll account for the louder report.

I have shot Stingers in my Marlin 60 rifle. More bang, and some actual recoil kick. But they were not (quite) as accurate as good 22LR, which I have also heard from others.

Be careful not to get dirt in the lube coating (but you probably know that).:)

I use stingers in my carry weapon. They are loud and very fast. They cycle my weapon reliably. My Ruger 10/22 owner's manual says not to try stingers in it. Why do you suppose that is? Are the dimensions different or are they too powerful for the bolt?

The case is longer on a Stinger than a normal LR. I have read of possible troubles with them chambering in some weapons but have used them in various makes without any problem.

If you want even more oomph, you might try the Velocitors from CCI. Full 40grn bullets at close to Stinger velocity. These have a distinctly louder report from my pistols and rifles. Shoot accurately too.

From a 6" barrel Stingers move out at 1395 fps and Mini-Mags at 1060 fps.

The recoil spring in the 10/22 was'nt designed for Stingers, you could put a +lbs spring in, but this may cause trouble feeding lower recoil ammo.

oopy ! just fixin some typo's

Yeah...

I'll admit it. Though I really like .45acp for a carry gun, my last ditch backup is a Taurus .22 pocket auto... and Stingers are my load of choice.:D

I have a 10/22 and have put hundreds of stingers through it with no trouble. Hell the first day I bought the rifle I shot 4 boxes of them in it. The only thing I shoot anymore in my 10/22 is Stingers, and mini-mags, the bulk pack stuff just doesnt have enough kick to cycle a semi-auto rifle. Honestly if I were forced to resort to my 10/22 with 30 round mags, and stingers I wouldnt feel too under gunned.

I have shot alot of Stingers from my 10/22 with no troubles . There is a noticeable difference in the sound the Stingers make when they hit varmits  kind of a whomp/pop .
CCI stingers could cause to much pounding on the bolt stop pin which is mounted in the aluminium reciever .
Volquartsen makes a recoil buffer that may solve the problem. https://www.volquartsen.com/vc//pages/public/ListItems.jsp?id=33

makarovnik, My manual says not to shoot Stingers in the 10/22 Target models.
The chambers are tighter.
I've shot quite a few in my regular 10/22 with no problems whatsoever.

I use stingers in my Ciener arms 1911 .22 lr conversion kit. These kits use aluminum slides that are a lot lighter than a slide on an auto, but a lot heavier than most conventional .22 autos.

I had an Advantage Arms .22 kit for my Glock, and I had trouble getting it to cycle. (Probably mostly needed break-in.) I tried the stingers, and they worked fine, but the gun was so light, I honestly felt that between the aluminum slide and polymer frame, it was just abusive. I got my Kimber and conversion kit, and it functions overall more reliably, (actually it's excellent,) and I normally use stingers. But after reading some reviews in here, I'm going to get a box of velocitors tomorrow and try them too.

I asked if it was ok to use hotter ammo in this kit, and opinion around here says it's ok, just replace the buffer every once in a while.

TSK TSK.

Unless you have the target model 10/22 stingers are fine. Just like my Airmen at work, they read stuff too. They just didn't pay attention to the details of what they read.;)

Here is a link to the manual. Top of page 15.

Editied,

Or maybe you did pay attention and have the target rifle.
