This thread is about my former poll "Which Brand do you own" or something like that.
The poll is about handguns only (i.e. revolver, single shot, or autoloader) NOT RIFLES!

So here it is

S&W at 207 votes
Ruger at 178 votes
Springfield Armory at 115 votes
Colt at 110 votes
and
SIG at 96 votes

So now here's a poll about which ONE do you feel is the most reliable of the 5

Please give your reason as to why you feel you choice is/was best.

And remember this is totally subjective (i.e. an oppinion thing) so no HATING on someones choice and reason guys/gals.

As always Thank you all.

Sincerely and respectfully,

USMCDK

My input is flawed by default -- I've never shot a Colt.

I chose Ruger. Of the other three, which I have shot, Ruger is just plain tough and reliable.

Not that Sig doesn't make great guns. They're my favorite autoloaders. The P220 fits my hand magnificently and handles better between my fingers than anything else I've shot with a magazine. But they're an autoloader. They will jam, whether at the gun's fault, the operator's, or the ammunition's. It happens.

Of the three revolver manufacturers, I like S&W the best. The feel of the guns, their inherent dexterity in my hands, lends them a special place in my heart. Use them as they are intended and you'll be alright. But they don't beat Ruger in longevity and ruggedness. Smith & Wesson build their revolvers often as pioneers and for niche purposes (ie., concealed or continuous carry, requiring a lighter, albeit theoretically more fragile, frame). I love them for it, but still, not going to beat the Ruger.

I don't have much experience with the Springfields, but the same applies to the Sigs: Springfield makes fine, well respected 1911s among the firearm community, but it is still a bottomfeeder and so inherently more susceptible to jamming than a revolver.

I'm sure you can all die happy knowing that a greenhorn gave a sermon on his soapbox, but those are my opinions.

Overall, great guns all.

at least you give an honest opinion based on what you know and have done, that is all I ask of anyone that ever reads my threads or post in agreement or dispute to my post and/or threads.

Thank you my friend

hey Mikbnem may I ask why you made the choice that you have.

Please everyone post the reason you chose, give the other readers you insight and inside knowledge of the brand, it might just save someones life one day and or make for a really happy shooter/gun owner.

Among the choices, the answer is simple for me. SIG.

The design is simple compared to most other choices you listed. Compared to 1911, which is the mainstay of Colt and Spring field line, except for XD, it's has the simplest short recoil system design. Meaning less to go wrong. I don't really know much about XD to comment on its reliability.

My personal experisnce with Ruger is not bad, but the reviews from people who used it ranges from "okay" to "piece of crap." All pistols from all manufacturers jam time to time, but SIG rarely gets "piece of crap" rating.

S&W line don't interest me except M&P. But, it seems like it has reliability problems. Here's the link:

SIG has been proven to be reliable by major organizations, like SAS, U.S. Navy SEALs, U.S. Secret Service, U.S. Customs, etc.

I would rate SIG, Glock, and H&K as top in reliability.

If you need a beater that can take a lickin it has to be the GP100 from Ruger. It is a tried and true favorite of outdoors men. The right weight balance and calibers for outdoor activities.

I voted Colt because I've had good luck with them recently, but to me all of the major brands are the same. IOW, the one gun I have has to work to be of any use. I don't really care if everyone else's guns are perfect because it doesn't do me any good if mine is the one that's a lemon.

I picked S&W simply because of all the guns I have shot or been around while they were being shot, the S&W camp has been the most reliable. But I agree that all major, good quality brands still put out lemons on occasion, including Smith, and therefore my experiences may be completely different from any others.

 Oh yeah, not only that, but Smiths rule and all the others are just plain bunk :neener:

I chose Sig because thats what I carry and shoot IDPA with and its the brand that I shoot the most. I bought my first Sig in 1994 (P228) and now have a total of 14 of them.
I have had only one problem over the years and Sig CS took care of it on their dime with a turn around time of 8 days (new gun with a bad sear).
I probably shoot an average of 750-1000 rounds a month through my various Sigs. They all function perfectly. I generally shoot Remington UMC or Federal American Eagle but they will eat just about anything that I put through them.

I would have voted S&W as well if I could have voted for two, but I put many more rounds through my Sigs.
I do carry a 642 very often as well, and have many other S&W wheel guns. I have never had any problems with them either.

No Glock, so I went with Springfield. My XD has never failed me.

I put Smith but to be honest, I haven't had any (and I own or have owned and shot all of them) really consistently classify as "unreliable" except Springfield.
I would list them like this:
S&W
Colt
Ruger
Sig

Springfield.

I voted Ruger I've owned several of them allways reliable, although Sig would fall close behind.I have had to send one of my S&W's back and have had to work on my SA GI 1911a1. and my colt huntsman will jam in about half the # it takes my ruger, not that thats bad we're talkin' 500 to 1000 rounds

In my view the answer is Sig hands down. I had heard about them for years, just never bought one, and then one day a guy shows me an X-Five 9mm while I was looking at High Powers. It was like taking candy from a baby. I have just added a P226 Elite. Incredible guns.

it's always good to see people that are happy with their choices, and I am happy to see some good responses.

For the Glock fans... I am sorry that it wasn't a choice in this poll, but on the other hand, if you read the first post to this thread you would have seen the reason why. trust me I feel bad that my own choice isn't up there, the H&K, but that's the bends my friends. I only went with the most popular brands that were chosen by you the posters.

I could have gone with the top 10 but that would have been alot of close calls and alot more bickering problems. However I have taken the Glock into consideration based on the post.

Please forgive me if this post may have offended you by leaving out the Glock. By no means to I shun the Glock an ex of mine owns one and it's a nice 9mm and it works for her very well, she''s had to defend her home with it. The poor SOB is now in prison and with a bullet wound to the knee, that no longer functions the way god intended, but once again thems the bends.

Ruger because I own 5,3 of which are pistols.Price verses value you can't beat Ruger.

Picked a SIG, because of all the ones I've ever seen, once you figure out what they don't like to eat (which, in my experience, they don't like bargain-basement type deals), they do what you want them to do. I hear less about problems with them (at least, on their german-mfg products) than the other brands listed, on average. I would've voted for S&W, but I don't know enough about their autos (though their revolvers have been spot-on for me and everyone I know).
