Poll Update

SIG = 40v
Ruger = 37v
S&W = 27v
S.A. = 22v
Colt = 11v

It's starting to look like more people believe in the Sig reliability, even though in the other poll less people owned SIG's versus Rugers.

Very interesting results thus far, I am hoping to see what the outcome will be in the next 2wks.

BTW I haven't voted on my own poll if no one has noticed. It's due to the fact that I have yet to shoot any of these name brands. Hopefully in the future I'll have the money to do so, or just plain luck that a friend might have one and is willing to let me pop a couple rounds down range.

Keep it coming people and thank you as always

I voted Sig. got my first one in 94, a 226 9mm have probably close to 10k rounds through and never a failure. since added 3 more. I think for many the cost of the Sigs is the prohibitive factor compared to the others.

Update:

SIG = 49v
Ruger = 42v
S&W = 29v
S.A. = 23v
Colt = 15v

I must say for a website that boasts highly about the colt (1911 to be more specific) I am suprised at the lack of votes in that choice. Now don't get me wrong I'm not implying anything but I am, however, making an observations.

Anyways keep the votes coming my friends of the gun. This poll should make for some good research for my next thread

"Why is ... so reliable to you" (... = which name brand is on the top of the poll)

Tough choice between a SiG and a Ruger. I rate both of them as "damn near indestructible".

Just another upd8

Sig = 53v
Ruger = 49v
S&W = 31v
S.A. = 25v
Colt = 16v

It still amazes me that these numbers are still in favor of pretty much everything but colt. Can anyone here give testimony as to why the colt is far lacking it peoples trust???

I chose Ruger as it is the only make gun I have never seen break on the range to the point it could not be fired. Many S&Ws and more than enough of the rest.

I have seen all the others break so they would only be useful as an odd shaped club. The only Ruger I ever saw break was my P90. The mag release spring broke while I was qualifying and wouldn't hold the magazine in. After asceratining that was the problem I finished the qual course while holding the mag in with my support hand. Shipped it fEDEX o'night to Prescott on Monday got it back the folowing Wednesday. The gun wasn't out of my hands for 48 hours.

As much as I can agree with that statement, I have seen a Ruger do down in the range and not be fixable at that moment. So in defense of other brands, to include mine. I can pretty much say the same thing.

I own H&K

(12) days later and the stats stand at

Sig = 61v
Ruger = 56v
S&W = 33v
S.A. = 27v
Colt = 17v

Sig looks like it ultimately, hands down, viewed as the most reliable name brand firearm. Of todays modern world. Many of you have posted some fine information and reasons for your votes and I hope to see more in the near future.

I voted for the standard (metal) S&W because these are what I've had the most success with in terms of reliability.

I've owned two Colts, one a C&R revolver (Army Special in .41 Long Colt) and the other a 1990s Delta Elite. I enjoyed the DE, but was a little concerned about the slide-to-frame fit. Very wobbly. Accuracy was very good, however. (FWIW, I also liked the Army Special, despite the pricey obsolete ammo.)

But I had to vote for just one!

;)

SA. Out of the choices, they're the only one I own a pistol from, and it has never failed to fire (XD-45 Service). This is more than I can say for:

Beretta- Honestly with the stuff I've done with that pistol I can't blame it, but I think there was one time during a match where I got a click when I wanted a bang. Never figured out what it was, since I tap rack banged and resumed fire almost before my mind had processed the click.

Taurus- I love my PT1911, but it needs grease on the rails to be reliable.

I voted Ruger... the Rugers I have shot, and own, have not been the best looking guns (except maybe the New Vaquero), but I have yet to curse one for failing, or have parts work thier way loose at the wrong time, or lock up and not fire at all. Ruger guns are just rugged.

S&W would have been the closest (and I mean VERY close) second vote for me - all my S&W revolvers are gems, but they do shed parts if not watched carefully or enhanced with Loc-Tite. I carry a 442 every day, so I am willing to bet my life on S&W. I am also beginning to really trust my M&P as well.

Colts are great, but I know my Python is a high-toned bitch if it is mis-treated, and the SIG has jammed, although rarely. I do not own a Springfield, so no vote possible there.

Just my opinions, of course, friends.

Update for those that would like to know.

SIG and Ruger tied at 67v

S+W at 43v

S.A. at 32v

Colt at 19v

I was wondering when Ruger was going to catch up if not beat SIG. Don't gt me wrong I wasn't hoping but I just found it odd that Ruger had more owners on this site but less votes to it being the most reliable.

Oh well keep 'em coming shooters this poll ain't going done for a while. AT LEAST I HOPE NOT!!!???

Usmcdk

at the begining of this post, you state:

This thread is about my former poll "Which Brand do you own".

but give no link to that.

obviously, i'm coming in late on this. but like many others, i wonder at the lack of choices offered.

if the original question was just what brand the reader owned, then the most reliable of the most frequently purchased handgun brands is the object of both polls?

please DO NOT read in any unintended malice to this question, i am actually just asking...not being some kinda smart donkey, just coming in late.

I got you gunnie and it's cool but you are right I should add the link(S) to the polls so that the viewrs acan see what the other stats where and how it came to be that I made this thread.

Thank you for the advice and I am on it right now.

and here they are

First poll which has the SIG option

http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?t=344016

and the second poll which is the (REVISED) poll that I add many more options too.

http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?t=344203

you will have to vote on both links in order to have your votes count towards all you firearms of the given choices, and yes there are still some name brands missing and it's only due to the fact that I made the polls based on the most talked about brands that I saw at the time.

thanks and regards

I went with Ruger, admittedly I'm quite biased. My grandpa, an old southern lawyer back when around Central Florida was good and rural with dottings of small cities carried a SuperBlackhawk .44 Magnum in 5" in his brief case and a Ruger Security Six .357 in 4" in his waist band, yes even when it wasn't "legal" (in his opinion it was always legal, he's gone now). I grew up shooting those guns and my uncle(his son got them when he died, granted I got his SBH .44 Magnum in 7 1/2" and it's been a greater shooter he bought in the late seventies and I pop near around 50 rounds a week through it). My second gun was a Ruger Security Six with a 4" that I foolishly ended up selling for a fifty bucks more than I paid for it and got a snub Rosi and Arcus on top of it, still it wasn't worth it as I look back. I also own a Ruger P-90 in .45 ACP that has just been a great shooter and the model has shown up in the hands of quite a few shooting competitors who performed incredibly well with the factory stock. I love it my mine because it's a good shooter able to eat almost anything and have never had one jam in all the four or five k i've put through it, granted I clean it after every trip to the range.

I've shot S&W, yes with a triggger action like butter and models like the 629 and 642, it's a well known and well respected brand but... for a guy like me who is into powerlifting, the trigger pulls too easy and I feel like the I'll accidentally crush the gun in my hand, plus I've heard too many horror stories from friends and family followed by them going to the Ruger brand for life. Admittedly I want a S&W .460 and I sock away all my loose change (about thirty bucks a month) and ten percent of my casino winnings (about three hundred every four months or so), after I get my reloading kit and graduate from law school I'm hopefully going to be able to pick up a used 5" and buy a used or brand-new 2 3/4" because who wouldn't love to toss the .454 Casull out of a snubby.

Springfield, if I was more of an autoloader fan and wanted the XD series (if they would just make it in 10mm I'd pick one up in a heartbeat) they'd be right behind Ruger instead of S&W. I've shot their 1911s(buddy of mine has a few I get to shoot every now and again) and .40 Subcompact XD (fun little shooter) and enjoyed them but against my P-90 they feel cumbersome and ...unwieldy.

SIG- I honestly have no experience with it.

Colt- Again no experience.

gunnie i got you PM and thank you for not posting all of that here. My head still hurts :banghead: LOL!!!

MagnumDweeb that's a laundry list right there my friend and you keep shooting I hope that you are able to get what you are looking for in the near future.

As for me I really am kinda unbias in this one. I really only posted the poll for you guys and to find out what people feel is the most reliable out there. Who knows maybe one day this poll will help me buy my next handgun.
