Well I'll be darned; it"s a Lil Walker, now that's plum cute. I guess the lever stays up with heavy loads!! I'm still getting used to; click, bang, slap, repeat 4 more times. It kinda reminds me of a Patton tank with mag wheels.

JohnnyCremains,

I have one with a 5" barrel, posted it back in Post #680 in September of '08. Aren't they great?? Not much lighter but a lot easier handling.

New photo of mine.

Scrat, it is impressive at night. Really lights up the sky!

Walker jamming issue

I have had a consistent probelm w/ chards from spent perc caps jammng the cylinder on my Uberti Walker to the point where it does not move. This creates a major safety issue and I would like to solve this problem. I searched this thread and someone mentioned "cap guards" to solve this. Do cap guards work and where do I find them? Are there other methods or modifications to the pistol that would fix this? Thanks to all who reply!

Lots of information here in the PINNED topics.

I favor drilling a small hole and installing a pin just where the hammer comes over the frame. I enlarge the slot in the hammer so I can still use the safety pins in the cylinder. Others have there favorite tricks. There are also better cones available to replace the factory ones, these seem to help remedy the situation.

See post #2 by Smokin'Joe about homemade cap guards made from inexpensive aquarium tubing:

Cap Guards are sold by RMC Sports Outlet. Click on "black powder shooting accessories" in the left hand column and they're shown 1/2 down the page.
A pack of 50 cost $2.99:

Cap Guards

Cap Guards are used over the cap to hold it securely in place. This will eliminate loss of your cap and prevent moisture from getting to it. When the gun is fired the guard will contain the cap, reducing potential injury from particles.

I am curious, how do you guys get your Walker's to the shooting spot? None of my pistol rugs are even close to big enough for this monster.

Jared
I got a flap holster from a US supplier, Le Pierre Sutler. The holstered gun goes in the boot of my car on the way to the range.

My Walker. (Uberti) Bought her new in 1991.
This thing has been lots of fun and zero problems or malfunctions.

Yep Knirrir that is indeed the sawed off part of the barrel.
But, you gave me a good idea. I will line the inside and use it as my lever!

Looks like a derringer in the making to me. Wonder if you could use that barrel section to do something line the old New Orleans Ace single shot.

Ha, yep it sure is. And probably the most used, beat up and maimed one in the world

Took it to a gunsmith here in town yesterday to ask about putting in the original front blade sight.
First thing he said is "Looks like a Colts Dragoon." I said it's a Walker, and he replies "yeah they have 7 and a half inch barrels". At this point I knew this old timer didn't know his cap 'n balls very well.
Also got the news that he couldn't install the front blade sight because for some reason he couldn't 'hold' the barrel to make the sight cut.
Now I will just have to aim without a sight since there's no other gunsmiths in town.

by the way you can 'admire' the full uncut gun on page 38 :D

With a hacksaw and a file you can let a dovetailed sight onto the barrel. Go slow and it will be fine.

I have had an Uberti Walker kit sitting on the shelf for years. Now that I have the time to finish it, I have run into a few little blocks..
I plan to do a hot salt blue on the backstrap, frame, cylinder, and barrel.
I'm using the same 2:1 sodium hydroxide:sodium nitrate I use on chisels and such.

All of the teardown forums and threads I have found stop after the trigger/hammer action is out. I think that I need to pull everything.
The main problems I have are: how do I remove the the base pin and the cylinder lock pin?
both of the barrel pins don't want to move.. stuck in the frame
and how do I pull the front sight without destroying it..

And a question.. it has been mentioned to never remove the wedge screw.. why? The drawings don't show it holding anything in, but I thought there is some kind of cam in there to interact with the wedge spring..

So, anyone done a complete disassembly of a Walker?

Thanks much..
BTW, I am new to here, been lurking in the tall grass just watching for years.. have a wall full of front loaders, an 1851 navy .45 (yes, the Pietta abomination, but it was only $75 and it shoots tight..) and an Uberti 1860..

When I finish this one, can I join the club?
