The ultimate current production 1911?

I gotta say, THAT looks like a nice commemorative model. It has that "look at me" factor without being annoying IMO.

Too each their own but I see zero value in that gun. The price is also being greatly inflated by its potential tax deductibality. YMMV

I do not like engraved guns.

You should check out Collector's Firearms in Houston. They have tons of these...

There are even several engraved polymer guns, and a god aweful Beretta 92FS and an HK P7 there... The stuff sits there forever. I don't really see the appeal of this, personally.

Colt's Royal Blue is just amazing.

My hat is off to the talent that put that work of art together. To my eye that is CLASS and not BLING.

I hear a lot of good things about Colt's Custom Shop over on the 1911 Forum, sounds like they are very able.... not just engraving and appearance either. I'd love to have them put together a Gold Cup with a 2 lb. trigger in royal blue for me. But I've caused enough trouble lately to keep me out of gun shops for quite a while.

What's better?

Something functional. Something you can shoot. I personally do not need pre-manufactured and pre-determined museum pieces. My guess is it will never be worth more than it sells for in this auction.

I suppose that is the ultimate 1911, if you want at 10,000 dollar paperweight you'll never fire. Plus, being a well proportioned young man, (read as tall and skinny with big hands:D) I don't dig the whole mil-spec thing. Just save $9,000 and buy a good combat custom you'll actually fire.

Anyone else notice that the price includes:

Factory Tour

Lunch with Colt Management

Photo-op with factory engravers

Spaire mainspring housing with your initials engraved on it

Display case and letter of authenticity

A box with the wrong label on it (obviously not a black oxide finish)

Otherwise it's a $2,500 gun, at most. Personally, I'm a little disappointed in this gun. I also feel like "100 years ON America's Side" would have been more appropriate.

I'd just like to have a gun that said "1911-2011." I don't need giant letters to tell me that adds up to 100 years.
