On the Autoloader Forum you really didn't think the S&W would get its deserved respect did you?

If you reload the 44 Mag is the most versatile handgun caliber there is.

I picked the Colt, mostly becaue I figue you do not have a 1911 yet. The Sig might be a better choice if you want a combat .45 (I prefer double action autos over cocked and locked - not trying to start a discussion here, just stating my preference).

The S&W is a great gun, but really specialized for hunting and bench shooting. I wouldn't have any need for it.

For hunting the S&W, but how often do you hunt? For all things else the Sig, that is a fantastic looking gun. (love the wood grips). The Colt is more or less usless. Too big for carry and too small for hunting, all you are doing is buying the name and bragging rights that you own a Colt that stays in your safe. Life is too short to buy guns you do not use.

Get the Colt, though I prefer the SIG. If you are not willing to learn the technical details of the 1911, then get the SIG. But, the Colt is the better buy, especially as a BBQ gun.

Avoid the MIM LOCK trash from S&W.

......I think we need more details on 'the work'..being done...

If it's;
root canal/bridge ~you get the Sig.
if hip or knee replacement~ S&W
carpel tunnel or lasic eye surgery ~ Colt
implants/tattoo ~ you get a Hi-Point

What are you doing with it?
There are a bunch of 1911s I'd rather have than that one, and there are a bunch of S&W revolvers I'd rather have than that one, but it is your money...

I guess she is not getting an "augmentation", because that would not be quid pro quo, but tit for tat... :)

It would depend on the current collection. For me it would be a no brainer. SIG P220. I like SIGs, love the .45ACP, I have a 1911, don't have a P220 and the stainless Elite is one I'd REALLY like to have.

The S&W? Good grief. I'm a S&W fanboi & that thing is just too... well.. never mind.

Make sure you post some pics. You could post some of the gun, too, if you like.

Being a neophyte w/2 semi-autos, 1 rifle and 1 shotgun my vote is based on an emotional reaction. The S&W because it looks B.A. I think I'd hit myself in the forehead from the recoil. The thought of that makes me laugh. :p Also, it looks like the type of gun that would make Ms. Feinstein weak in the knees.

First 1st choice would be the Sig it fills a variety of roles: personal and home defense, range gun and all around carry gun. Also the Sig is a lot safer to carry while cocked and locked as compared to any 1911 even the high end ones's. The Sig P220 can be carried around with "one up the pipe" on a D/A trigger mode.

If the Colt was a Series-70, it would be a much closer call for me. I'm very fond of Colts, Sig's and S&W revolvers. It would not be uncommon to hear them mentioned as the best of their respective platforms. My judgement would be based on which one I would use the most. My choice would be the Sig P-220.

I've had issues with all three of the modern Smiths I've owned but they are still nice guns.

The OP called this "purely a vanity purchase". If your looking for a vanity enhancement, nothing looks meaner than the big .44 mag. As an attention getter, this is the king.
