Hello everyone,
Does anyone own or have experience with this shotgun "safe?"

http://www.authoritysafes.com/gun-safes/rifle-safes/shotgun-case-model-3842-sa.html

On paper it seems ideal for me. Small, obscure, mechanical lock, easy/fast to open, relatively inexpensive etc.

My first question is about fit:
The interior dimensions are 40-1/2"x7"x3" Now, I suppose that will fit my Remington 870, stock and all, but it will be only just. Has anyone had problems with fitting?

My second question is about the combination:
Is it fast? Reliable? Easy to change? I can use multi-press patterns, right? IE the combo could be 1,2,3 & 4+5 together?

And finally - mounting.
I would like to mount this just inside the side wall of the closet next to my bed. I hear rumors that the holes are not drilled to standard studs, can anyone comment on this? I don't think "anchoring" is a good idea with a 30-lb case with a shotgun inside it!!

Thanks guys!

response to questions about the V-Line 3842-SA

Hi Pathman -

You have posted some great questions about the V-Line Model 3842-SA.

1) Fit
You are correct in stating that only 1 Remington 870 will fit in this case. However, it really depends on the barrel length, over all inside length of the safe is 40 1/2”. I would suggest measuring the gun. Depending on the size, you could possibly lay one on the floor and you might be able to fit 2, if you put them in with the barrels facing each other.

2) Lock
a) Yes, it is very easy to change the combination of the lock. The directions are included with the safe.
b) You can have a combination that has 1 number or up to 5 numbers. You can use 2 buttons pushed at the same time. You can do more than 2 buttons together, but I don’t recommend it, as it can be hard to push more than 2 together. The only restriction is that you can only use each button one time in the code. For example you can use a code of 1-2-3- 4+5, but you cannot use 1-2-1.

3) Mounting
The Shotgun Case is designed to install on top of a wall (or surface); there are holes in the back to drill to a stud on the wall’s surface.
The Closet Vault is designed to install in between studs, and will handle 2 maybe 3 870’s. If you haven't already looked at the Closet Vault - this may be a better option. Although it costs a little more, it is larger in size, and would fit your needs more.
