When Glock 17 were first introduced in the early 90s, I was not impressed. You could not change grips, the slide release was too small and they did not have drop free mags.

Now however the latest gen have a better feeling grip, drop free mags, and after market extended mag and slide releases. Also after hearing about the 9mm and 357sig conversion barrels for the G22 on GunTalk one Sunday I became interested in Glocks again.

A local gunshop had a gently used, latest gen, police trade-in G22 for $450 out the door and I decided to finally drink the glock cool-aid. It's a great shooter and with the addition of the Lone Wolf converion barrels I purchaced gives me three different calibers to choose from. I'm glad I waited for the right Glock to come along instead of disapointing myself with an earlier model.

A little confused here...

My Generation 2 Glock 19 has Drop-free magazines. It was bought in 1994.

My first experince with the first gen Glocks was in 1989 or 1990 while stationed in Alaska. I'm pretty sure it was 1990. They came in what looked like a black tupperware container.

I bought my Glock 17 in early '86, shortly after they came out. I am still impressed with it's design, durability, reliability, and its revolutionary polymer construction. I've never had any of the problems you say were shortcomings of the original model, so I guess you could say I've never been disappointed with it. Glad to hear they've finally made enough improvements that you found one that was right for you.

Glocks are far from Kool-Aid! Haha I guess I can see some seeing that way. Their brilliance and ingenuity are something that manufacturers have been trying to accomplish (or copy) for a long time. I like all my pistols don't get me wrong, but the one by the bed is a Glock 23.

Enjoy your new G22! I know you will find it as the most reliable automatic you have ever fired.

:)

:what: Sorry mate, Glock's been stateside since 85-86 and metal lined mags appeared in the early 90's..:) Happy I am though at your joining up with the rest of us pod people and sipping a little of that Glock kool-aid....:D

I just bought my first Glock, a 3rd gen G17, last year (no one has ever accused me of being an early adopter of new technology :)). It is what it is (ugly, slab sided, utilitarian) but I like it a lot. It's comfortable in the hand, shoots decent groups, light weight, and is 100% reliable. Can't ask for anything more.

I couldn't stand to look at the damn things when they were released. I own 6 of them now. I can't tell you whether my advanced age has made me more knowledgeable or just plain senile.:uhoh:

I was hesitant for years about acquiring one. I shot a heck of a lot of them in every caliber except .357Sig but never felt extremely compelled to own one. I now own two (29 and 34) and I'm quite fond of them. In fact, the G29 is my EDC gun.

Welcome aboard!

I wish they would redesign the grip and grip angle. It's like trying to hold onto a badly carved 2x4 for me. It's not that I can't hold a doublestack--I love the BHP, and the SIG226, and am lusting after an XD45compact.
