A month ago I found a LNIB LB pistol for a great price. I'm sending the final payment on Saturday. I just contacted my FFL and asked him what I need to do as this is my first time to buy a gun from a non-local source. He told me to just give him the info and he'll do the rest. He then told me that it'll probably take 2-3 weeks to get to him as packages take much longer to arrive during the holidays. Tack another ten days onto that because of California's stupid waiting period and there's a good chance that I won't be seeing my new gun for another month. :banghead:

I don't know how you guys do it.

Is this the Baer you bought? Don't feel bad. I waited 25 days to pick up my PII because my FFL went on a 2 week vacation on day 9 of my 10 day waiting period. :D

Of course, this was tacked onto waiting for my gun to arrive to the FFL. So, I know how you feel.

Your pistol should be shipped as soon as the last payment clears. You take that up with the company you bought the gun from. How soon you can pick it up from the FFL after it arrives depends on your local laws.
Ex....... As long as my final payment is not made with a personal chack then the pistol gets shipped the next day. It will take 1 to 3 days for the pistol to arrive at my FFL. I can then pick up my pistol the day it arives at my FFL.

I just think of it as part of the pennance of gun ownership  At least you'll have an addition to your collection "soon" ;)

FedEx will still ship overnight or 2-day deliveries guaranteed.

What kind of shipping do you plan to use that takes 2-3 weeks? For a pistol shipment? I don't believe it.

Fedex will not ship a firearm 2-day. All firearms must be shipped priority overnight.

From Fedex (http://www.fedex.com/us/services/terms/us.html#firearms)...
  • FedEx Express will transport and deliver firearms as defined by the United States Gun Control Act of 1968, between areas served in the U.S., but only between:
    1. Licensed importers; licensed manufacturers; licensed dealers; licensed collectors; law enforcement agencies of the U.S. or any department or agency thereof; and law enforcement agencies of any state or any department, agency or political subdivisions thereof; or
    2. Where not prohibited by local, state and federal law, from individuals to licensed importers, licensed manufacturers or licensed dealers (and return of same).
  • If your shipment contains firearms, select the Direct Signature Required Delivery Signature Option or Adult Signature Required Delivery Signature Option, depending on the requirements of your shipment. See the Delivery Signature Options section for details. Firearms shipments are not eligible for signature release or indirect delivery.
  • Firearms must be shipped via FedEx Priority Overnight service. FedEx Express cannot ship or deliver firearms C.O.D. Firearms shipments cannot be placed in a FedEx Express Drop Box.
  • Upon presenting the package for shipment, the person tendering the shipment to FedEx Express is required to notify FedEx Express that the package contains a firearm. The outside of the package must not be marked, labeled or otherwise identify that the package contains a firearm.
  • The shipper and recipient must be of legal age as identified by applicable law.
  • The shipper and recipient are required to comply with all applicable government regulations and laws, including those pertaining to labeling. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives can provide assistance.
  • FedEx Express will transport ammunition when packed and labeled in compliance with local, state and federal law, and the Dangerous Goods section of this Service Guide. Ammunition is an explosive and must be shipped separately as dangerous goods. You agree not to ship loaded firearms or firearms with ammunition in the same package.

If it's coming from another FFL, it's probably shipping US mail. I'd estimate about 3 days in transit. I wouldn't expect shipping delays this far from Christmas.

I don't know how it works in CA, but around here I buy the gun from whoever's selling it, send them a copy of my dealer's FFL, and he calls me when it comes in. I've never had a dealer take care of anything other than recieving the package, doing the background check, and taking my $10 for his trouble.

What is the pistol?
Majik, same pistol.

It's a Baer Concept II.

I hate California's gun laws, I really do. The DOJ gets to determine which handguns are safe enough for the peons to own. Anything that's not on their approved list is not legal for sale, unless of course you're one of the privileged few. To save myself some a potential headache, I went to the DOJ's website to print out a copy of their approved handgun list. Concept II is on the list, no problem there. I then called the seller to ask for the gun's serial number. The lady I spoke with was very helpful, she understood the difficult albeit ridiculous situation I was in. Equipped with the serial number, I then called LB to confirm that the handgun in question was indeed a Concept II. The person I spoke with told me that indeed it was, so that was a relief. Good thing too, my FFL told me about problems he's seen in the past when a buyer unknowingly imported a non-approved handgun.

So now that that's over with, I just have to wait the I don't know how many days until it get's here. What was it they say about patience being a virtue? Forget that, give me my pistol already.

Thernlund,

I know that, I'm just suggesting methods of shipment that are commonly used to ship private-party guns.

Still haven't heard of anything needing 2-3 weeks transit time to ship. Even parcel post is faster than that, and you really don't want to ship a pistol thru an untraceable/uninsured method.
