Stopped by the LGS a day or two ago. I'm not looking for anything, just dropping in. There in the case is something I don't recognize right off the bat. It's a K-frame Smith and Wesson with a 6" barrel, but I can't read the tag (which is always turned so I can't). I ask to see it "just out of curiosity." Turns out it's a 1952 K-22, (22 LR). It's not in perfect condition, some minor freckling that should come off with an oily rag and a little elbow grease. All matching numbers, including the stocks. The stock screw is a little boogered up, but the rest look good. I didn't dry fire it, but working the action by hand is really smooth. Bore and charge holes look good.

Snapped a couple of pictures with my phone before it got hauled off to layaway purgatory.

No box or papers, but you can't have everything.

I've been needing a 22. It was either this, or a Phoenix HP 22. I think I'll like this one better.

Oh, I forgot to mention. I'm a '52 model myself. My first "birth year" gun.

That would be hard to pass up...... :)

As someone was has owned a Phoenix HP22, you absolutely made the right choice...

I still want a Phoenix. 😄
I used to frequent the Log Cabin Shop in Lodi, Ohio. Often when I walked through the door one of them would holler, “… here he comes! Rub some tinfoil on the rusty gun and tell him it’s silver plated!…”

Usually they only charge me $50 more than the tagged price. 😊

Of all those times I've done the same, and ended up buying something I didn't know I needed. My guy greets me and says "Hey, got some new 1911s in, and a some old Smith revolvers we just put on the shelf..."

Funny, my shop had one of the same Smiths not long ago, and I passed because I didn't "need" another 6-inch. As is my custom, I slept on it, and when I came back the next day, it'd been sold. I should know better by now.

Nice find!

One summer some fifty five or so years ago, I was in the back of a canoe on the Current River in Missouri, We came across a Cottonmouth in the water. There were kids in the water ahead of us., amd we shouted for them to get out of the water.

A couple of folks were sitting in a john boat along the shore, fishing . They took note of the situation, and one of them took out what I recognized as a K-22. He took one shot, and hit the snake in the head.

True story.

Yes, I do hold them in high regard.
