They lost my gun?

Decided finally to buy a Walther P22 for my wife. Went to Vance's where they are advertising them in 3.5" barrel, 2 mags, new in box for $239.99 & figured, what the heck.
Salesman shows me the Olive Drab two-tone model in the display case. Kinda not my style. Asked about a black one with 3.5" barrel, like the black 5" compensated ones next to it.. he says, it's been a popular gun.. but I have one left. Goes & gets the box, I start the paperwork, we go through the usual cash or credit routine, I ask about ammo types to use in it, after ten minutes or so of talking he opens the box..... and it's empty!
Since the box is serial number tagged to match the pistol inside, this is not a normal occurance. Several salesclerks immediately start searching every display case but no gun is found.
He took my info in case it turned up... but nothing yet...
It was suggested that they had been so busy with the new sales flyer that a small pocket sized gun like the P22 might "walk" out the door.... That gives you confidence!

thats wierd. the same thing happend to me. I wen to my local gunshop today, they had CZ .32ACP pistol for 130$ and they had FIVE they were unable to locate. BTW thats a good price for the 5" model. I paid 340$ for mine with teh nickel slide.

$239.99 is a lot to pay for a box. Boxes do not require a 4473. If you buying a firearm, make sure you record the serial number on the firearm onto the 4473.

That pistol may have been sold to someone already, whether it was under the correct serial number is a different story. It'll now be reported stolen, if it ever crosses a FFL's or the Police's hands someone is going to be out of a pistol.

Shop somewhere else, dealers with sloppy behavoir should be avoided, no amount of savings is worth having to deal with someone elses screw up down the road.

Stories like this are why Target got out of the gun business. They had a six loss prevention people working full time on just one store trying to figure out where all the guns had gone and to get them cleared off the books before the next audit, it did not happen. If i remember correctly, the total number for the chain was well over a hundred unaccounted firearms, and this was when Target was a three or four state operation.

Ive shot the sh*t out of this gun. My odl lady liked it so much I had to get here one of here own nickel plated one. I recently bought some new mag followers that up the P22 mag from 10 to 13(+3) round capacity. Every little amount counts. Ut taskes away the slide open after last round feature though.

That whole situation sounds shady. How does a gun just "walk out" of a gunshop. Thats some sloppy work, you can't run a successful business like that.

That gun weighs about a pound, how can anybody with any sense carry an empty box around and not know it is empty?

I would be very suspicious of any .22 with a steel barrel that's had it's rifling "shot out" even after a hundred thousand rounds. I know people have concerns about the soft alloy components of the P22, but the barrel should hold up much better than that.

I think you need to give your barrel a soak in an aggressive lead solvent overnight, and then give it a good scrubbing with a .22 brass brush. Then repeat as needed. I'm thinking your barrel is just full of .22 lead and the waxy lube the bullets are coated in.

You should also try an ammonia based copper solvent if you were using coper plated .22's. If there was any significant copper, you'll see gobs of blue junk on the patches. A layer of copper might be covering earlier lead deposits and keeping your patches and solvent from getting at it.

You might also want to try an electrochemical bore cleaner like the Outers Foul-Out II. It essentialy "reverse electroplates" the crud in your bore, onto a rod that runs down the center.
