Two thieves escaped with some of what they came for. But police say without their major mistakes, it could have been much worse. It happened around 12:45am at the Gun Mart on Charlotte Pike in West Nashville.

According to police, the criminals first tried to get in through a next door business, but came up against a brick wall. They next ripped a hole in the roof and got inside, grabbing 25 guns.

However, the weight of the weapons caused them to crash thru the ceiling -- forcing them to run away with only three guns.

Police had to call in a fire department ladder truck during the investigation to ensure no one was still hiding on the roof as well as help keep officers safe as they collected evidence.

So far no arrests have been made.

Angie told me about this last night. Those were some pretty brazen, not to mention stupid, criminals. I guess I won't be able to go there to price check for awhile. At least they didn't get away with that FAL they showed in the video. That's one of the weapons I'm looking at getting.

This shop is about 6 blocks from my last apartment. I use to go in there at least once a week.

Such comedy is preferrable to the gun store robbery I read about last week in Detroit. They found the owners body tied up next to the open safe after putting out a 4 hour fire. The owner's family said he would have gave the criminals anything they wanted so there was no need to kill him. Looks to me like he actually did give them everything they wanted and it wasn't enough.

I bought a Ruger P89 around 1993. The store it came from had been robbed and when the owner drew down and opened fire they dropped this gun. Nobody was hit but when I got the gun it still had some fingerprint powder on it. I never found out if the guys were caught. Too bad more bad guys don't drop the goods on the way out. Idiots.

I saw those two on the news tonight. They truely looked like a cross mix of Beavis & Butthead/ Dumb & dumber/Doofus & Dipstick. Heres your sign. I don't think I've seen such a sorry pair of loosers...ever. Sad thing is, some one will bail them out of jail. Probably the one that said " seems like a good plan to me". Then they'll sit around wiyh a beer and try to figure out what went wrong.

I was just at the store, talking to the manager. They've got quite a hole in their ceiling! There's dust from the ceiling material everywhere. Apparently, one of the yahoos accidently missed the beam and went crashing to the floor, leaving his blood-stained shirt hanging in the air. They had stacked several cases of 5.56 underneath their entry hole, and they evidently smacked into it onthe way down. Ouch! The good news is that all three stolen firearms (Bushy AR, CZ52, and Kahr MK40) have been recovered and the store will be open again on Tuesday.

After they left the store in a rush, they drove over a curba nd bottomed their car out, possibly ripping the oil pan loose. They then proceeded down the street and broke into a pawn shop, but weren't successful there either as the shop puts their guns into a locked cabinet at night. Then (the story goes on..), they drove back past the first store and went to another gun shop, driving right past the Metro PD West Precinct. At the other store (Sporting Arms), they cut the exterior phone lines and attempted to break-in, but were thwarted by the alarm system.

Not exactly in the running for smartest criminals of the year.

Stealing firearms from an FFL is a federal offense.

Last time that happened in my county the cops issued the following press release:

Turn in the guns you stole and we promise to give you immunity.

***! IMMUNITY FROM A FEDERAL OFFENSE? :cuss:

Sounds meth-related?

i can't imagine anybody NOT hopped up on speed going on a poorly thought out spree like that.

***! IMMUNITY FROM A FEDERAL OFFENSE?

probably immunity from local charges. the feds, of course, would be there to arrest them.

on the other hand, the police are allowed to lie...

(mod note: thread title fixed, thanks)

Thats funny I did not ntice that!!!! Its was that way on the web site. I just cut n paste it here. That figures ..... thats why the media is always right!!!!:what: :what:

Why would anyone steal a CZ52? You can get them for $100 each.

Everyone thinks these guys are stupid, and I don't disagree, but had they made it out of the roof, and not tripped the alarm, they would have gotten what they came and no-one would have known. Until they bragged about it to their friends.

Aren't commercial alarms set to alert someone if power is cut?
