I currently have a Winchester model 70 Classic SM BOSS in a 7 mm Mag that I have had for 15 years or so and was kicking around the idea of selling it. A family member of mine has a Nikko Golden Eagle model 7000 .243 that he said he would trade straight across for. Both are in like new condition and we keep our own scopes. What do you guys think? Bad trade or not? I can't find much on the net on either rifle to gauge a value. Mine was only made for a couple years in the 90's and his was only made for a few years back in 70's-80's. Any advice would be appriciated. He is wanting to trade pretty quickly.

I'd keep the Winchester, personally.

The M70 has a reputation for durability and accuracy, the Golden Eagle; not so much. Here is a thread on TFL about them: http://thefiringline.com/forums/showthread.php?p=3579329

In 7mm Mag, your rifle is extremely versatile and durable (but I'm sure you already knew that ;) ). Unfortunately, the Golden Eagles' design had the locking-lugs at the rear of the receiver instead of the front as is typical in modern centerfire designs. This can contribute to accuracy and durability issues. However, the Remington 788 was known to be very accurate with this same design.

Also, it depends on if you want to trade it for a nicer, blued-steel-and-walnut rifle like this one: http://www.armslist.com/posts/80599...-for-sale--model-700-golden-eagle-7mm-rem-mag

If it were me though, I'd hang to the Winshester. Maybe put a match barrel on it if you are looking to give it some "new life"!

I know the Winchester is the "better" of the two... and in my opinion, its not even close. I just want to know which one is more valuable. If I get the Golden Eagle, I will sell it. I already have a 243. I've tried selling the winny already, but no luck. Seems not too many people want the BOSS( I kinda liked it myself). Just wondering if the GE might be a easier sale.

A model 70 would have a broader market I would think. Just a guess.
