Thinking about another modification to my FAL

I would like to know what headstamp code it was though...(like I said, I am still sitting on several thousand rounds).

I'll check when I get back to my car. (I've got a bunch of the brass in a bag in my back seat.) I do know that it's 1980 production off the top of my head.

None of the other SA I used (probably 2000 rounds of it before) gave me any problems after the gas setting was adjusted. As I said, it's likely just a fluke because I'm lucky.

EDIT: It's WA 80 and 7.62 R1M1

Do they make a 7.62mm Noveske "Krink" brake?

Yes, they do. I'm wanting to get one for my 16" S308. I know that they have it threaded for 5/8-24 which is what I'd use but I'm not sure about the FAL's standard thread size (9/16-something LH, isn't it?). Unless, of course, you've had it threaded differently.

The last time I looked, Noveske was out of stock on the 5/8-24 but it was available through some distributors.

Barrett

Edited to add: I've had some issues with SA surplus as well, so you're not the only lucky one in the bunch...

NC,

Here ya go. http://noveskerifleworks.com/cgi-bin/imcart/display.cgi?cat=11

From above site:
The Noveske KX3 Flash Suppressor is intended for use on Short Barreled Rifles. It is the latest refinement of the KFH concept. It is lighter than the KFH by 1.5 ounces, and outside dimensions remain the same. All KX3s are individually serial numbered for quality control. The 1/2x28 threaded KX3s are available with or without the Fire Breathing Pig image.

The KX3 may be used on 5.6mm, 6.8SPC and 7.62mm AR barrels.

The Noveske KX3 is classified as a flash suppressor by the BATF FTB.

I wonder how a Robar NP3 finish would look on the exterior of the rifle? Too shiny, maybe. Perhaps a Roguard Black on the outside and an NP3 on the internals?

I'm probably going to go with the Yankee Hill flash hider. The Noveske is a good idea and I think would be a great choice for a 16" .308 (especially how it increases back pressure and deflects muzzle blast), but they don't make it in the 9/16 left hand thread that the DSA Badger FAL barrels come in. The YHM flash hider allows the quick-attach of a suppressor, and it just so happens that my main man Correia is a YHM direct dealer.

Hm. Customizing the guns you've got is just as fun as getting new ones!

Is there anybody that can put the sand cuts in the bolt carrier and receiver? Worth the trouble?

Hey, if you get that nifty aluminum handguard, you could bolt some processor fans to it. That'll really cool things down. Though, those big heat pipe / copper fin things might get hung up on stuff. And they're kinda fragile.

Edit: FAL barrels are supposed to be threaded? Dangit, I knew something was screwy with mine.

Yeah, you need to get about four and a half inches chopped off your barrel, the gas port drilled accordingly, and have it threaded for a scary looking flash hider. Then you'll be onto something.

One of the best modifications I've made to the rifle so far is replacing the tiny Belgian magazine release lever with a roundy (that's a technical term) Israeli one. It makes releasing the magazine a lot easier for me. Unfortunately, I think I got the last example of that part that the guy had, so if I get another FAL rifle I'll be hunting for one.

DSA should make the Israeli type standard.

OK this might sound cheesy, but what about some of the heavy duty foil products used as heat and sound insulators on automobiles? Not dynamat, but the stuff used around engine compartments.
