Once again, I want to thank everyone for their input. It has really been helpful in framing the parameters of the decision. Of couse, my circumstances (both those imposed on me and those I choose to accept) limit my decision somewhat and I appreciate everyone who recognized that.

I'm thinking whatever you decide will be more than adequate. While I recommended 7mm-08, given the way you describe your circumstances it might make sense to be in .308 just for bullet and brass availability. Although if it was me I might buy the 7mm-08 and sneak a Midway order in once and a while to get some 120gr ballistic tips for it
