I am probably going to buy one of these for a range gun. I have a bunch of .45acp that I need to shoot up and I think the all steel 645 would make a decent plinker. I have a Glock 36 but I hate the frigging thing so I don't even like shooting it.

What do I need to know about the 645 before I buy it? Are mag hard to find and expensive or not too bad? Are part available? Is this still covered by S&W's lifetime warrenty?

Magazines for the 645 are the same as for the 4506 and are readily available new from the factory for $41.00 or from CDNN for $29.99. The magazine has gone through two or three changes over the years, so look for the newest version, which has a black follower. A solidly-built pistol like the 645 should have minimal requirements for parts replacement or warranty work--but I guess any mechanism can develop a problem.

S&w 645

I think you're in for a pleasant surprise. They are boringly reliable and the three 4506's I have owned have been very accurate. Built like tanks, and their looks and feel grow on you. Some feel grips a bit thin, but I like how flat they are, Pachmayr grips are still around for it and I believe Hogue still does some. I stay away from mags with yellow followers and have had no problems with the old steel baseplate and follower types I think will come with your 645.
Cheers, TF
