I have a Marlin 882SS in .22 Mag that is a great gun but I find I don't shoot .22 magnum that much and I really like the CZ452 much better. I have a Varmint and I am thinking of getting a nice CZ452 special base model with iron sights instead.

So what are everybody's thoughts. The 452 would be a .22LR since I really love .22 Long Rifle. Any reason to keep a .22 magnum in the arsenal?

Every collector needs a .22wmr! But if you're more of a shooter than a collector, trade it to get what you'll shoot.

Personally, I'm torn on such questions. I prefer to have "shooters" in my collection and have traded away guns that I didn't shoot ... generally with no remorse. But there are a couple I wish I had back. Biggest problem is selling something to get something else, then finding that I don't like the replacement as much as I thought I would. Solution: never sell a gun to finance a second. Buy the second. If you then find you don't need/want/shoot the first, that's the time to sell it.

So buy the CZ 'cause you want it, and then make your decision on the Marlin.

"beware the man with just one gun..."

Keep the CZ.
.22 Mag isn't the most accurate or economical round out there. While it does fine on ground hogs and other vermin, its just not a bench gun round IMO.
I him-and-haw about a .22 mag every once in a while but can't bring myself to buy one. Once I get into ammo cost, accuracy, and ballistics the .223 seems to be a better choice.
If it were a 17HMR I might go the other way though. :D :p

If you're not going to shoot it, dump it and free up the space for something you will shoot.

And ... oh, yes it is. I do believe I see the bottom of an Army of Darkness poster in that room. There's your answer. Shop S-Mart.

I've had a couple 22 mags in the past. I say dump it and get another 22LR.

Get quotes from different places as to how much they will pay you for it. When I sold my Howa .223 I want to the 3 major gun stores in town for a "hands on" quote. I let them know I was "shopping around" and wanted to know how much they would give me for it Cash or Credit. Then you simply sell it to the highest bidder. I got quotes of $240, $260, and $300, so it pay's to shop around. The good thing was that I only paid about $380 for the gun new. (Got to love employee discount. :D )

Unless your a dealer, which I'm not, guns are for buying not selling. Keep 'em all, sell none, you'll be happier in the lomg run. Have'nt seen a post yet about someone selling a firearm without the usual (should have kept it) right along side. You'll be sorry you did, you'll never find another like the one you let go, and you'll pay more to replace it!

I found that after I bought my 882 SS I figured out the same thing. I just did not shoot it enough. I liked my 17HMR better. Trade it and get what you will shoot and what you want.

Sounds like your mind is already made up! I think you will get a lot more use out of the 452 CZ Special - I have one and it is easily the "best gun for the money" in my collection. Paid $189 in 2002. Shot the target in the attachment - 10 shots at 50 yards. I am now seriously considering a 452 American in 22lr.

I have owned a few 22 mags - Marlin 783 and CZ Lux. Sold the 783 when I got out of the Service to help finance a 22lr semi-auto Weatherby MK XXII. Sold the CZ Lux to finance the purchase of an Anschutz 64 MPR in 22lr. Never did get around to buying the Anschutz :D

At the moment I have a 10" 22 mag TC Contender barrel that shoots as good as some rifles. It is borrowed - hopefully the owner will give me a good price on it!
