There are two ways to approach this issue. One is emotionally, the other is logically. Well there is a third way. Do both.

My emotional approach is a custom Springfield Armory Mil-Spec., I have customized it in piecemeal fashion over the years and three big name gunsmiths have worked on it. The Action job was done by Teddy Jacobson, Action by “T”, with a 4# trigger pull. Cylinder & Slide installed a Bo-Mar barrel and bushing guaranteed for 2” groups at 25 yards and stippled the front strap on the frame, Novak installed their adjustable sights. I’m still not done with it. I want to install a different beavertail grip safety and refinish the gun, maybe in Hard Hat. Frankly I have way too much money in it that I will never recoup if I was to sell it.

My next 1911 was done logically. I chose a stainless steel Springfield Armory Mil-Spec and followed Jeff Cooper’s advice. Teddy Jacobson, Action by “T”, did all the work. He replaced the hammer, sear and trigger, set the trigger for a 4# pull, polished the feedway, recrowned the barrel and installed Novaks carry sights. He also added a beavertail grip safety. It also has a extended thumb safety which I have decided I don’t like so one of these days I’ll replace it with the factory safety. This is just a functional no nonsense handgun. The only other things I am considering is having it Hard Chromed to give it ultimate rust and weather protection.
