I've been carrying a smith&Wesson Model 10 for awhile now,I've gotten pretty good with it,but at the same time,I've had a few of my friends point out that they've seen the holster poking out from under my shirt,so I've been tucking the end of the holster into my pants pocket. but I've been thinking of rigging up a back up gun for carry when I'm amongst a crowd of friends and we're out having a good time at the movies, ect. and I thought about using the top pocket of my vest,so I bought a cheap 25. cal pocket gun,(I know I'm going to get grilled because it's a chaep "Saturday Night Special")

I've been thinking of moding my vest so I can use an inside the pant type of holster (I'm thinking of getting rid of the bryco and buying either a Taurus PT-22 or 25.) and I'd like to know what you guys think about this idea (It would be located in the top pocket of a ripstop BDU jacket).

And what ideas or B.U.G's would you use?

Are you saying that you will now carry 2 guns? The Model 10 + the .25 caliber? To me using the term B.U.G. implies carrying 2 firearms.

I am not criticizing the practice, just trying to clarify.

Two of my friends are retired cops who carry their old service revolvers - 4" S&W K-frames. Typically strong side, inside the waistband. They do pretty well keeping it concealed.

For a flat .25 cal I would suggest a pocket holster or possibly a belly band.

J-frame in a pocket holster.

There's an interesting "neck" holster from Comp-Tac ( www.comp-tac.com ) that's suspended around the neck on an adjustable lanyard, Centerline Holster. Good for Keltec P32/P3AT or any such smaller frame unit.

Also depending on your frame, you might check out Comp-Tac's CTAC shirt tuckable holter.

Your main problem appears to be the outside-the-waistband holster you're using. IWB doesn't have that problem.

What's the barrel length on your S&W, out of curiosity?

A decent IWB holster & belt will cure what ails you. Also, you might want to consider a 2" snubby M10 or a J-frame snubby. For your IWB holster, skip Uncle Mikes & get some decent leather.

J-frame+pocket holster=BUG goodness

I won't give you heck for carrying a cheap .25ACP, but that .25ACP has a poorer record than .22LR. So, you are going from "goes bang every time & is chambered in a service cartridge" S&W M10 .38spl to "may go bang and is chambered in a cartridge considered marginal for jackrabbits" Bryco .25ACP.

I would sell the Bryco to finance a good IWB holster or start on a quality snubby (K or J frame).

Good luck, whatever you do & stay safe.

Longer shirts, longer jackets, and longer sweaters. Overshirts. Buy "Tall" shirts, and jackets and sweaters. Might be a fashion faux paux but hey...at least no one will know WHY you are a fashion idiot :)

My oldest daughter, the fashion maven says: "Daddy, those longer lines on your new jacket really elongate your torso and make you look taller!"

We call Ms. Mode (after Edna Mode).

Bad place. Very inaccessible. You want easy of use, as well as concealed. If you are disarmed, and aren't shot, then you will wanna be able to get it fairly stealth-like. That motion is going to show up like a pretty flower on a black-sand beach.

Just a few thought.

BTW: I can't stand IWB holsters. They cause irritations on some scars I have on my torso in that area (the hip/kidney area of the lower back). I have just learned to accomodate OWB and Safepacker carry.

Yep....................

Kel Tec in the pocket..........very controlable and accurate pistol........You can hang out with your hands in your pocket, one around your gun and the other around your pistol.........:D ..chris3

+1 on the J-Frame in a front pocket holster. Get a set of Crimson Trace grips and it's all you will ever need in regards to CCW.

It doesn't matter if the .25 is cheap or not, the bottom line is that it is all but useless as a stopping tool.
Buy a hammerless .38 revolver airweight loaded with something hollow, and I suggest that you carry it inside the belt on your hip. ALWAYS carry the weapon in the same location. In a real panic emergency you will instinctively reach to a given location and if you've moved the gun because you've changed clothes, or what ever...your out of luck. Yes it has happened to me. I used to carry my "off duty" weapon in a sholder holster until I one day reached for it at my hip when lead was flying and came up with a decidedly unlethal handful of shirt. I immediately switched to hip for all of my carrying and have never been sorry, and that was 35 years ago.
Why hammerless? If you do put it in your pocket, the hammer will always get caught, even if you try the thumb over hammer move. It works in practice, but don't bet your life on it. Why a revolver? Because they ALWAYS work!!

You're right, I'm going to bark about the .25. As has been pointed out here and elsewhere, it's the worst self defense caliber you can carry. Seriously. Even a .22 has a better record. If you want to go mousegun then at least get a .32 or a keltec P3AT. Either is no bigger than the .25 you're planning on using and both have a much better chance of stopping the bad guy. I just don't want to see you in a situation where you grab for your back up piece in a last ditch effort to save your life and die because the bullet you're firing can't even penetrate the dudes winter coat.

As for locations, I've got a smartcarry holster which is a different brand of thunderwear. Works great. I also use the undershirt holster from kramer leather which is one of my favorite ways to carry. You may have to try a few different things and use what you like best or what the situation dictates.

Oh, I also use both my keltec .32 and .380 in a pocket holster and for a pocket gun they're just about perfect.

The title of this thread reminded me of a country-western song from years ago:

"...my friends call me two-gun,
I've got one in my boottop and one in my overalls."

If your Bryco is reliable, and if you are aware of its limitations, then it serves a useful function as a defense gun when something bigger or more expensive won't do. From the back cover of "Concealable Pocket Pistols", Paladin Press, 2001, written by Terence McLeod;

"Small-caliber handguns are often maligned as too puny for serious self-defense, but millions of Americans own and carry these guns and have used them successfully to stop violent assaults."

That said, I think I'd personally go for a .32 or .380 which would be only slightly bigger than a .25. My blogger name refers to a North American Arms minirevolver in .22LR, but I see that mostly as a plinker, even though it was originally designed as an 'Onion Field insurance' deep concealment defender (that true life book by Wambaugh was a good read too) IMHO.

You may want to try an ankle holster. It's really slow to get to if you're standing, but if you're sitting (especially in a car), it's much more accessible than most waistband holsters. And definitely easier to get to than a front pocket.

I carry a Kel-Tec P32 in a KD wallet & no one notices I have two wallets.
It's comfortable enough I tend to forget I have it.
I know people look down on 32's but it is an extremely reliable little gun for when I can not reasonable carry my 9mm.
The lil one in my pocket beats the cannon you left at home :neener:
