So to start, I have 2 1911s, both Springfield milspecs. I just don't carry them any more. It's heavy, and yes conceals ok, but still nothing like the lighter and smaller xd mod 2.

I already have an xd mod 2, and carry it all the time. So I figure why not sell the one 1911, and go with another xd instead. I'd lose some money on the deal, but the 1911 is used so I expect that.

One of the only factors holding me to keep the 1911 is the accuracy beats the xd at longer distances.

I'm driving myself nuts here, and don't know what to do. Advice? I can't save up for the other gun and just not sell anything, finances won't be there for a while.

I do not understand the utility of having 2 of the same carry gun. I can see why someone would want to have 2 1911s, for collection. Now if you wanted to carry a .45 Mod.2 like nutnfancy does and shoot a long XD(m) at the range, it would make sense. In XD universe, magazines are interchangeable in .45 across the whole line (although not in other calibers).

Great question and you already kind of somewhat answered it. Magazine interchangeability is important for me because me and my wife I would like to be able to share magazines. Also currently Springfield is giving a rebate for four additional magazines on top of the two that come with it. Another reason is I don't have to buy another holster but I know that's maybe scraping change at this point. I also just happen to have a thing where when I fall in love with something I want an extra just in case.

What would really seal the deal without hesitation on my end is if Springfield came out with the 4-inch Barrel but the shortened grip of the 3.3 inch version.

I am not saying what you are doing is wrong. To be honest I only own one 1911 & I usually carry something striker fired. It just seems somewhat sacrilegious to sell a 1911 to buy a striker fired pistol. However it is your property & your decision. I hope whatever you do you are happy with the results.

Hey they're your guns; buy, sell, trade them on whatever makes you happy. For instance I have three 1911s: an old Springfield Armory Model 1911A1, a Colt Government, and a Colt Lightweight Government. All three can pretty much do the same thing as range guns but the Lightweight Government can also do CCW duty as well. Maybe what you need is something like a Colt CCO or Defender.

None of the guns being discussed here are hard to come by. I say go for it and ditch one of the 1911's you don't carry or shoot much. If in a few years you decide you need a second 1911 again, you SHOULD possibly, just maybe be able to find a new one you like.

I here there are a few companies that make 1911s nowadays. ;)

Maybe I am OCD but I always buy 2 of the same gun. Not sure why but I do it anyway.

The last part about a 4" with a short grip is done with the XDM rather than the Mod 2. Technically, it's only a 3.8 barrel. It comes with one long mag (with sleeve) and one short. The "Gear Up" offer is still going for a few more weeks. That would give you 4 extra mags. The kydex/leather holster I bought for my XDM fits my Mod 2, BTW.

A 1911 will hold it's value better than a polymer framed handgun if that's a consideration for you.

I went and checked into the xdm. Its about perfect.....except the m is 50 dollars more vs. The mod 2. It may be worth the extra money but it does feel a little bit larger.

Non sequitur....

You know the old saying, "two is one, one is none".

Stuff breaks, Murphy's Law usually pops up at the most inconvenient time.
