For a Sig P229 Elite Dark, 9mm. The 1911 has less than 50 rounds through it. This is my first 1911 and I just don't like the idea of carrying the gun cocked and locked. So, the gun just sits in my safe. No slam on 1911's this is strictly a personal preference. Other Sigs I own are a P220 Elite Dark, P226 Blackwater, and a 556 pistol. Suggestions advice?

Ohhh, as much as I love my Sigs, I love the E series more.... You do what makes you happy. I would almost get you a P229 Elite just to end up with the E series. The P 220 is my favorite.

If I had a sig, i'd trade you for it. but I am biased, being as both my current CCW guns are 1911's.

Well, if it's just gonna sit in your safe, then trade it.
I'm not gonna give you the "but cocked and locked is safe, yada yada" speech. If you don't feel comfortable with it, then get rid of it, unless you'd like to keep it just to shoot it.

Do what makes you happy. Your 1911 "cocked-n-locked" fear is all in your head and that's the only place it will ever be resolved. Seems the trade is in order.

I must agree with this . Best you trade. Not every one can carry C&L

A cocked and locked 1911 has TWO active manual safeties that must be engaged before it can fire. A sig 229 has NONE.

Your concern is totally, completely unfounded.

I have a EAA Witness Elite Stock in 45 with less than 500 rds thru her I'd like to trade. Fiber optic Froint Sight, DA/SA with a Thumb Safety, 10 rd Mags.

WRGADog,
I completely understand the hesitancy and can respect your decision, to make a decision about your gun. Much respect.

I have however chosen to carry 1911s locked and cocked, (when fully dressed, when in short and t-shirt I carry a glock that isn't locked, just 1/2 cocked.....)

But honestly, if you do the research and fully understand how the thumb safety blocks the hammer, controls the sear, and even if swept off and a hammer follow resulted the 2nd notch is in place, honestly thousands of soldiers and a hundred years of experience doing it that way can't be wrong.

Either way, I not only ask you to carry safely, but also respectfully request that you continue to carry. I don't feel safe when I see government goons running around with guns, but there is a certain warm feeling of security that comes over me when I see a citizen open carrying, or if I notice a concealed holster. When the people are armed, and not just the criminals, (or government, oops, same thing........) then I just feel better. Thank you for making my America a safer place, whichever platform you decide to do it with.
