Here's a link:

Look in the right hand column, "PW9701L".

13+1 is one round shy of what I'd really like, but I can live with it. Para Ord. mags should fit, right?

Anyway, anyone have one of these/know someone who has one?

I want a double stack .45 something fierce, and a Glunk is completely out of the question. Cant stand them. Intellectually, I know they are decent weapons. But I dont want one.

Clerk at the local store said she'll get me one for $499. Sixty bucks below MSRP isnt too bad, right? Better than some other places around here, which sell things either at MSRP or 20% higher.

So if you've got some experience with these, please speak up.

Don't assume Para-Ord mags will fit. It looks alot like a Para frame, but there are several varieties of double-stack 1911 mag out there (STI, SV, Para-Ord, Caspian...). Ask SA before you buy.

Double-stack .45 ACP 1911s tend to be more iffy in the reliability department than double-stack 1911s in skinner calibers like .38 Super. I know somebody will pitch a fit for me saying this, but I've heard that from more than one gunsmith FWIW. And my experience with them has been... sub-optimal.

This is a Brazilian design copy of the Para-Ordinance.
Para mags will work.
The sights are classic GI 1911A1 type.
Springfield/Brazilian high capacity are available from Springfield and CDNN if you just don't trust the Para magazines to work.
All in all these are pretty decent guns, but like I said the sights suck.

But the sights are easy enough to swap out, correct? I could just get some better sights to put on it.

Sean, do you mean double stack 1911's in general, Springfields in general, or Springfield double stacks in particular?

Thanks for the replies.

Just widebody 1911s in general. My understanding is just that they are a little bit fussier on average (not that they all suck or anything like that).

If you MUST buy this MIM filled wonder, then at least be prepared to replace the Slidestop and Extractor with quality steel parts from Wilson Combat or Ed Brown.
Also keep an eye on the sear and hammer wear areas.

I'm building up a frame for a customer and I'm impressed with the quality. The plunger tube and attachment method is unique. Para mags will work fine although I hear that there may be some new high quality mags available for the Springer soon.

I called Springfield. The guy on the phone couldnt answer all of my questions, but he would ask me to hold and then ask someone else. Which is kind of cool. At least he didnt just say "I dunno" and leave it at that. Anyway, from what Springfield said, Para P-12, -13, and -14 mags should all work. Pistol only ships with one mag (13 rds), and they arent selling doublestack mags over 10 rds. for it yet, so I'll definately have to buy a few more. Dont know when they'll be selling mags for it, but since a 10 rd. mag is $40 from them, and I can get P12 - 14 mags for $40-$45 from CDNN, its pretty much a non-issue.

Just save for the STI/SVI in .40 or 10mm.

Not an option. I can swing a little over $500. There's no way I can afford $2800. Some people not only can afford, but are willing to spend, that kind of money for a 1911. I am not one of those people. I did a Google search after seeing those names here and IIRC 1911 board (dont remember the exact name), found the website for one of them. They started at almost 2 grand. No way can I afford that. Maybe after college, if I can get a job making $45k+ a year, MAYBE.

ppcrusa, thanks for the tip.

Promags are very iffy. I've had more that didn't work than did.

Para mags are no great shakes either often having "ride over feed" problems because the springs are too weak or the insides too rough to reliably get the base of the cartridge up into position in time leading to nose up jams. Wolf Springs and some elbow grease is usually the solution -- but given the cost of these mags shouldn't be necessary. Hopefully this will change with new production mags now that the ban has expired.

If you get good mags widebodies are great guns.

The factory Springfield mags that came with my widebody Micro appeared to be Promags.
