is there a such thing as to many guns?

Perhaps when you have two of every variation of every model ever made on any continent (one each of the one-of-one's, obviously).

Since no man has ever achieved this, it gives the rest of us something to aspire toward.

I think that means the answer is no.

Gun are like Jello, always room for more.

Wolfgang2000, that is absolutely brilliant! By far the smartest thing I've read in a long time. Do you mind if I add it to my signature line?

In my family we divide up the labor. I handle the guns, she handles the money. Unfortunately this generally results in there being very little in the budget for new guns.

The upside is that we're in a lot less debt than I was before we were married. Funny, that.

I look at it this way: if I can fit it in, on, or approximately near my existing safe without my wife complaining, I can buy it. :) (I've got an 8-gun safe, which in marketing speak translation means it can hold 8 Davey Crickett .22s comfortably.) So, I'm pretty much full-up. I'm OK with limiting myself to "only" 8 long guns, provided it doesn't include the ones that have been handed down, or pistols. If you pick wisely, you can cover most of the "niches" with your favorite and not suffer too much:

* .22 plinker
* .22 target (w/ scope)
* HD shotgun
* bird shotgun
* long-range scoped rifle
* homeland security rifle (AR/AK)
* 1 or two milsurps

Substitute where necessary...

That's what I limit myself to. I do (basically) the same thing for pistols, though not so much (because they're less of a burden to lug around in a move, to the range, etc. and are much easier to shoot 3+ at the range per trip.) I don't like selling things - more hastle than it's worth, and usually doesn't return what you've put into it - so I typically don't. I'm at 5 long guns right now, and I don't feel I'm hurting.

Now, granted, I don't include "project guns", which are milsurps and/or cheaper guns I've gotten to repair or refinish in some fashion. There are only so many hours in a day, and so many days in a life, and unless you intend to truly collect firearms, it seems to be a waste of both time and money to keep buying them; I'd wager most "shooters" spend more time buying or preparing to buy a new gun than they do actually shooting. I don't see a point in that.

I've got my 25 gun gun safe filled with the good stuff, and an oak 10 gun gun cabinet filled with the decoys. Even so I can't bring myself to part with any.
There always seems to be that niche that needs filling.
I've got a custom varminter on the way that needs a home in the safe, and I'm not sure whats gonna come out to make room.

I sure didn’t, I was just having a casual conversation .I am not real good at typing some times it is all I can do to put down the words I want to say. I will be happy to run every thing through Microsoft word to try to catch all my mistakes so not to offend any one. I will also apologize to any one that was offended by my punctuation or lack of.

>the bad thing is i really need any more guns but i have to have them

Tell her you're just thinking of her financial security; the guns are an inflation hedge! Actually, if you buy carefully, that could actually be true... of course fund your retirement plans first, guns aren't tax deductible ;)

Do wives really need to know everything? Of course I have been married four times so what do I know! And I know less than that about anything else, according to them (the ex's).

Ok, I'll just shut up now.
