Someone in the HK 416 thread asked me to start one, so.....

Here's some pics of mine, next to two other EBRs. In the first pic, the XCR is at the top. Bottom one in that pic is "just a little .22". :p

In the remaining pics, the XCR is on bottom or front and center. Mine is a 5.56x45mm with 16" bbl. I came *this* close to getting 6.5 grendel, but in the end, I think I made the right choice. I added a Vortex F.H., ERGO brand grips, and some el cheapo doodads. Scope is Sightron S2, 1.5-6x40mm, in Warne Maxima QDs. IINM, Sightron discontinued this scope config, much to my chagrin. And, as I mentioned in the other thread, I keep the cheapie fold down front & rear sights right on the rifle, ha. I want to be ready for the zombies if my scope goes T.U. :D

And a silly poll for good measure.

Had to mark down "No idea."

And thank you for making the thread! :D

As to that beautiful piece of machinery...since I have no experience with one, how does she handle? What is your accuracy with your setup, and have you experienced any problems with it? Anything to watch out for, etc? Thanks again.

Accuracy is just so-so - not as good as an AR, it would seem. That's not it's strong point, at least in my limited experience. I actually haven't shot it that much yet, so no reports on longevity. I will say that it functions with ball/.mil ammo on ALL of the open gas settings.

No, more like 4". But again, it may be capable of better; don't know yet for sure. Its strong points are reliability, ergonomics, reliability, ergonomics, and reliability. Kalashnikov type gas system. Charging handle on "correct" side. Charging handle is NON-reciprocating, yet can still give you instant two-way bolt control. Adjustable gas system. Lower line of sight than AR. Folding stock. Monolithic integrated multi-rail receiver design. Easy quick-change capability, for barrels, etc. Super easy to open and clean. These are some of the things I like about it. But it's a bit heavy (not too bad however), and accuracy is not impressive so far. Good enough for what it is - a short range assault/battle rifle. Handling is very nice, at least as far as I am concerned. You can use any AR15 grip, and the safety is almost identical in placement, feel, and function, as the ARs.

I have one of the reeeeeeal early version models with the now not standard obtainable 1:8 barrel and we likee....

I have (not recently due to tightness of funds) consistently gotten 3-4 MOA over iron sights and 2 MOA with optics over a 100 meter range and not using sandbags, sleds etc.

The response of Robinson Arms to their customers has consistently been excellent both with support as well as upgrading the platform on user feedback.

For example

Moved the gas adjustment system from a tool change to a finger change system
Making CA compliant variants
Upgrading the firing pin assembly
Designing an ambi safety and bolt release
Then designing a far more rugged bolt hold open and mag release combination
Improved trigger mechanism
Provide the XCR in a pistol variant and Micro and Mini variants all the way from a 7" barrel all the way to an 18.5" barrel all on the same receiver

As with any bit of kit made by man it can break but you really have to work hard to do it with the XCR.

I now wait with bated breath for the usual string of complaints from folks who have never handled or even seen one in the flesh who heard from someone who heard from someones brothers, friends, aunties, brother, Uncle Fester who says its rubbish........

Let me preface my comments by saying that I own a Robinson M96, the predecessor to the XCR and a great rifle in its own right.

To me the XCR is a very good design at a tolerable price. What has held me back from buying one is:
-price (not a good excuse)
-concerns over how long Robinson will support it
-lack of parts availability from anyone but the manufacturer
-my personal exploration leading me to conclude that the purported problems with the AR-15 are overblown, so that I have become quite happy with all aspects of the AR15 platform.
-not being able to see one in person at any local gunshop or show

As it hangs around longer my concerns over support are starting to lessen. I still need to see and handle one in person. However, I like the fact that it has metal receivers (vs. ACR/Masada) and seems like a simple, compact, well thought out design.

I don't own one, but my buddy does and I've played around with it some. Its a pretty nice rifle! I like the new mini versions now out. They are class 3 SBRs requiring the $200 tax stamp.

Been shooting XCR's since they first dropped. I've had mine awhile. No real complaints.

For the price you will be hard pressed to find anything better

So it's no tack driver. No problem. What would you call so-so? 2 MOA @ 100yds?

The guys I know shooting them claim 1.5 consistently with optics. I have only heard positive reviews from everyone I have met who owns one.

Mine definitely does a lot better than 4MOA.

Pricewise it is actually very competetive (that is, the best) vs. other platforms that have some of the same features. The SCAR is the closest competitor on the market today in terms of feature set.

I have to agree. General consensus on the XCR is its a 1.5-2 MOA weapon. I've seen 1 shot kills on small targets on the move at over 100 yards. If a person is getting 4 MOA something is very wrong

I've put about 3 - 4k rounds down range with my 7.62x39 XCR and have managed very good accuracy out of Wolf ammo.

Here's an example of a 5 round group at 100 yards at a bench rest with a 3x magnified optic. The four round group is sub-MOA and the fifth makes it 1 MOA.

I have two XCR-Ls now....and a PDW upper (9" 5.56 and eventually a 6.8) on the way.

My XCRs are 5.56 w/ 14.5" bbl, 5.56 w/16" bbl, 6.8 w/ 16" bbl.

Great ergos, really robust design. At 100 yards, I get the same accuracy as a standard chrome lined bbl'd AR.....about 1.5-2 MOA. This is off a bench and I'm not a great shot. I'd suspect a better nitrided bbl would give better results.

I have 2 LWRCs and a POF P-308 (and have owned a slew of other DI ARs).....I think if SHTF....I'd probably go XCR first. Just seems to be a stronger, more reliable design (though my P-308 and LWRC 6.8 are more accurate).

Sean

Glad to know it and I don't doubt it at all. Just that I haven't experienced it yet. But I'm a relative noob to these. Time for ammo change. And it's certainly possible that it's ME, not the gun! :)

I really like the XCR, at least on paper (not having fired one), but can't rank it as the best ever without firing. Also, it isn't a bullpup, so that just about precludes it from "sliced bread", but it might be the best since "canned ham". :D

My shooting has been with bog standard 55gr and 62gr American Eagle during the break in and a mixed bag of Wolf, LC and Prvi Partizan after which is where I got my figures.

Just got into reloading and in the process of building up a range of bullet weights and powder charges to see what mine likes best but more out of curiousity than need.

I bought the XCR for practical function and reliability and so far it meets all my needs.....I will admit though, if the RFB prices and availibility come together I may cheat on RobArms and go bullpup for my next .308 purchase as opposed to wait for the XCR-M.

Not to mention that swine Jestism over at Weapons Guild designing and putting together an L85 as a kit and finished rifle....So many wants, so little cash......

Bullpup fans, Charles Daly (KBI) has announced that they will be importing/manufacturing the IMI Tavor here in civilian legal form. Hopefully in first half 2010, we'll see.

So the XCR is the pinnacle - "Spam", whereas the SCAR, Masada/ACR, and HK 416 are different variations of "Treet"?

But if it was bull-pupped, it would Orowheat 7-grain?

:D

Hey, does the FN SCAR have an ambi charging handle?

Glad to hear it - more choices are better than less.

Yep, the RFB is still on my list, and the Tavor and MSAR 7.62x39 are looking like good prospects as well.

You got it. :D

I have one and like it. To sum it up I would say it has genuine AK reliability, slightly better than AR ergonomics. It shoots under 2 inches all day long. It eats any ammo you throw in it. I keep mine lubed up but it runs just the same when it's dry and it cleans up easy because it don't dirty itself like my AR.

SCAR is a good target rifle , but both of my SCARs jam at least once every 3 mags

if your life depends on one rifle, it should be XCR.

NOT SCAR /LWRC / HK / FAL / AK
