Well, I haven't even started, I'm just about to get all of my supplies in (this weekend I should be loading! )... and I'm already looking for more...

Now, I am hoping to get Varget or IMR 4064 to load for my .308, but I am now looking to start loading for my .243 as well.

I have about 200 rounds of factory ammunition for deer and hogs, but I am thinking about making up a coyote load for it. I looked through Hodgdon's website and they have 65 gr V-Max loads that use these two powders (screaming around 3,700 fps), but I was wondering if these powders are less-than-ideal for this purpose?


And no, I am not caring about keeping or selling the hides of the coyotes... I have a new vendetta against the critters after they killed my dog out of our backyard and I am just wanting to get rid of them. I figured an explosive V-Max would do the trick.

Varget and IMR-4064 will work fine in .243 and .308. Also, IMR-3031 and Re-15 are excellent. I wish there was a shortcut to find what will work best in your rifles. The only load developement that works for me is to load lots of different loads and shoot 'em. Your rifle will tell you what it likes. Good luck with the 'yotes.

Powders at that burn rate are fine for all the cartridges you mention. In today's market you may be fortunate to find what you want.

I would suggest checking several loading manuals, or online loading data from the powder or bullet manufacturers and see what powders have been used with good results in those cartridges. Then go shopping and see what is available.

You might also search the internet for powder burn rate charts, which give powders on a chart indexed from fastest to slowest. These are useful to pick a powder near the same burn rate as your first choice in case you can't find what you want.
