I’ve been wanting to add a 1911 (in God’s caliber) to my collection for awhile, and I have the opportunity to add a Cabot 1911. I’ve read many mixed reviews, curious what the group here thinks about these guns. I’ve never shot one, would love to hear from folks who have shot them. Thanks!

I have never shot one. I but only wish to be able to shoot one of their Limited Editions!

1911s made from solid blocks of Damascus!
Matched sets made from meteorites!
Bespoke originals!

And I like the little stars in their triggers, too!

When I kick this AR habit I’m on I’d like a custom as well. There’s so many to choose from! Analysis Paralysis!

That’s what I think. I’m awaiting real answers too.:)

You might ask over on 1911 Addicts. There seems to be a lot of 1911 lovers with very deep pockets, who might be able to give first hand opinions.

Probably where the mixed reviews are coming from..

My 0.02 cents.
They hired one of the best smith's in the business to turn their ship around. If it's an early gun I would pass. If you can get around their styling and was made after Rob Schauland joined up, go for it.

I do own a ACW which is a subsidiary of Cabot. Just no interest in the styling from the parent company.

Is that typical for custom 1911"s?

Key word.
I can spec out 1911’s from numerous companies that will blow by that price point. A one off from one of the best custom smiths will be approx. 2-3x if you’re not willing to wait your turn.

Still bargains when compare to the custom rifle and shotgun world. Which I find fascinating.

At least they are not this hideous Sig…

I rather like the “garish” Cabot pistols. Here are two that will never be copied.

How long it took for the iron to cool and crystallize, rather than just harden, makes the years it took to make these seem like instant magic.

If I like Cabot guns, I love Alchemy’s. They are my style. Pistols as art. Not, art as guns.

I wasn't terribly impressed with their customer service when I was hunting around for a builder that would take my build serious. Steve at accuracy x took me serious, and set the standard extremely high for service. The gun he built me is incredible too, so I have my eye on at least 2 more.

I'd just go with a Wilson Combat or a
Nighthawk and forget that silliness.
But then you’d just be choosing a model out of a catalog.
The silliness is the fun part. I have an eclectic taste, they don’t make what I want…

Ha! I can’t afford what I want!:D
A Nighthawk VIP would be closer in my reach, yet, I still may come across another shooter with the same pistol. The horror!

If I had one bespoke I could be assured of uniqueness. No one else could possibly like the same combination of features and motifs I’d have emblazoned upon my 1911.

But seriously, someone needs to end that poor X5’s misery. Gauche isn’t the word…:p

Can't say enough good things about Cabot. If you had a chance to examine any number of 1911s from different manufacturers with your eyes closed or blindfolded, you would be able to tell which one was from Cabot, even the botton end Cabots, by the rack of the slide, the pull of the trigger and the release of the mag. Best of luck and let us know what you decide.

I worked with Rob Schauland when he and I were both at Les' shop. Back around 2008 or so. He did such good work that Les promoted him to "Assembler" which is the most difficult job in the place. Rob is one of these guys that never seems to be working that fast, but gets the job done in a remarkably short period of time. And done to perfection. I would put his work up against anybody's.

He builds fantastic guns.

If you have not met Rob, he is a bodybuilder and looks like an NFL linebacker. Rob told me an interesting and humorous story about his time at Springfield Armory. The place was run by Doobie at the time and everyone was given a standard IQ test. Guess who came out on top??

You guessed it, the mountain of muscle!
