Thoughts on Stag Arms...

No...Stag no longer makes S&W M&P 15's or any of their components. S&W makes their own stuff now, but they use LMT bolt carrier groups. If there was a big 4, instead of a big 3 (Colt, LMT, Noveske) S&W would be #4.

I have a LH stag, my wife has a RH model, both are carbine length, they have been flawless to date. There is also a stag upper on a bushmaster lower that I built for my brother that has been glitch free so far.

All three rifles are between 1,000 and 2,000 rounds. Also, on the three stags in the family, ALL are well staked.

Look in the DPMS website, it's there.
And, I shot one about five years ago.

Nobody makes all their own stuff.

Not normal config, just playing with scopes.

Rails are $90 YHM 2 piece
grip was free with a trade
surefire G2 $34
viking tactics offset light mount $15
the wilderness 3 point sling (I have an Israeli IDF 2 point sling that works great too)

The 1 in 9 twist is fine for the ammo you want unless youre shooting 600+ yard competitions

I dunno the truth of the matter, but I've noticed at least three distinct "phases" of M&P15s that I've personally handled and sold. Sometime in the past two or three months it seems like they've changed..smaller profile handguard, and a different finish. The clarity of the S&W markings, for instance, have gone from faint to very obvious.

I've had my Stag 2L for about a year and a half now, and aside from one jam when I first got it, using a freebie '80s crap aftermarket mag, it's been flawless. With Black Hills 55gr I've gotten some pretty decent groups at 100 yards.

The marking variance is still on file for Stag to make the S&W guns in their plant. In addition to making nearly 80% of the OEM parts used by other manufacturers to assemble their guns (Insert Rock River here....) they do make the only TRUE left handed gun with all of the controls reversed. DPMS still has the forward assist on the right.

Stag uses a Shaw barrel, which as anyone can tell you is an excellent piece. One of our guys got a .5" group from the bench at Gunsight using 77gr TAP. I guess the big heavy barrel some manufactures claim are needed for excellent accuracy isn't needed afterall.

We use Stag almost exclusively for all of our custom builds. We get the odd barrel here and there for custom jobs, but so far we have been exceptionally happy with Stag.

Stag makes an excellent weapon. If it has more "goodies" for about the same price as the Colt, you should definitely go with the Stag.

I just jumped on the Stag bandwagon. I put my order in for a complete upper, a few minutes ago. Then I'll get a Stag lower when money permits:D.
