They have them here. There is a 7.5" barrel model, 12", and 16" barrels. Here we don't have barrel restrictions :D. Restrictions here are ONLY caliber-based.

This is the 7.5" barrel

Yowza, that 7" doesn't look but 1/4th bigger than a VZ61 Skorpion :what:. Loud, and I'll bet it actually manages to kick a bit, to boot! Replace that steel folder with a polymer and it's probably a <5lb gun.

It's interesting how different countries gun laws change a persons criteria for new purchases. I really like the looks of the 12"

I'd go at least 12". In addition to the blast and flash issues, most .223 ammo isn't particularly ballistically effective at the velocities you get out of a 7" barrel.

That 7.5" is very neat, but 5.56 loses too much velocity out of a barrel that short for my liking. As was mentioned earlier 7.5" guns are also very blasty. I would get the 12.5".

Very cool! I have shot the Vz in 7.62X39 and I found it very light and accurate. The factory folder 7.5" in 5.56 would be an excellent PDW with much better ballistics than the 5.7X28. Don't forget to post pix when you decide which one to get.

Well I guess that depends on how you define "much better." I tend to see 5.56 doing about 2200ish FPS from a 7.5" barrel with a 55 grain bullet. 5.7x28 40 grain bullets do about 2000 FPS out of a similarly sized PS90. This is with standard rounds and not the hotter loads that can be had (for example EA claims a load with a 40 grain Vmax doing aroudn 2500 FPS IRRC). Now you need to compare the actual bullets in question. Energy is only part of the story. Different bullets obviously perform differently, for example, the established threshold for reliable fragmentation for M193 is 2700 fps. Other bullets such as those used in a hornady tap cartridge will perform at much lower velocities. Bullet choice could be very important to the relative performance of each.

The 7.5" 5.56 gun is also going put off a lot more flash and blast. How important that is may depend on intended use.

While we are pointing out how unrelated cartridges and platforms would perform, from short barrels a 6.8 SPC II, 300 BLK, or 7.62x39 would each be better than the 5.56 in such short guns. I get around 1900 FPS from my 7.5" 7.62x39 shooting 123 grain bullets.

More to the point of the OPs choices, one tends to see a fairly significant increase in muzzle velocity with a 12.5 inch barrel versus a 7.5 in 5.56. And again the difference in flash and blast is IMHO significant. I had a 7.5" AR for a while. It was very cool and I just loved the look. However, it wasn't very practical and I believe 10.5-12.5" is much better in 5.56 and barrels in the 7-8" range are much better in other cartridges.

What calibers are you restricted from buying? It seems like .223/5.56 would be unavailable in a country that doesn't allow it's civilians to own a "military cartridge"?

I think I would go with the 12" or 16", the 7" is is going to give up too much velocity, and even the 12" might be a bit too short.

All calibers are permitted, including barrel sizes. Just that my permit allows only up to 6.5x55, but if i got another permit i could have more than that, including automatic weapons. Uruguay is much more gun friendly than USA, you can have full autos if you have the permit.

you would be best served with the 16 inch barrel. the longer sight radius would aid in accuracy and the longer barrel would increase velocity and bullet stabilization.

Ive shot the 7,5" version in both 7,62 and 5,56 - they both make all other shooters to run away.. the noise is immense and unbaerable (in indoor range).
