    Hi All-

I was just sitting here in my loading room thinking about my transformation from a factory ammo shooter to reloading shooter, and the role THR played in it. I have been saving my brass for about 1.5 years, because I figured I would start reloading when/if I retire, and kids leave the house (Several years from then), just to have something to do.

Then the ammo scare started to show signs of developing, and old timers started saying how they've been through this, and what it will become. This made me decide to start loading about 10 years ealier than I had planned. Based on that info., I decided to follow thier advice, and prepare to become ammo self-sufficient, about 8 months ago, because I shoot every week. Based on this advice, I purchased presses, components (Where are the reloading components thread), and did hundreds of hours of research. Now I will not be dependent on factory ammo again if I can help it.

THR is the new house for me, the members made it a home.

Thanks to THR for being the best available online knowledge resource I have ever seen, and thanks to the members for helping me become a safe and self sufficient reloader.

I have been referring folks here for years. It is truly a great place to hang out and learn how to do things right without all the bs other forums are full of.

I refer very selectively. 99.999% of everyone in the Facebook reloading rooms will never hear about this place from me. People who have a serious interest in working to become better at safety, loading, skills etc. MIGHT. :)

Maybe I should clarify, I refer folks that I feel would benefit this community, want to learn, and have manners. It may only be 10-15 that I refer here a year, but they are the kind I have come to like after years of being here. The rest I refer to Arfcom. :)

    Arfcom?

I am in my 50s, and seem to only be referring the young guys who are just getting into firearms/loading, and are being fed bad info. everywhere else, and have a strong desire to learn. I want them to start right, just like I was lucky enough to a couple years ago here, when I started shooting and training as a hobby. The count is only 4 so far, but I know they will eventually contribute here. They are always blown away by the spirit of helpfulness, and the experience levels of the members.

Arfcom is ar-15 dot com for those that don’t know. Lots of knowledge there, but lots of bs to dig through to find it and lots of attitude and rudeness.

THR has lost many people and reloaders with enough knowledge to write many books.

One of the finest was a man whos way with words by the name of RCmodel. His presence is surely missed.

He raised the bar. But we still have many here who do the same. As well as admins who make THR what it is. Holding true to its name The High Road i hardly think there are many places to get what you get from this forum.

Personally i think i have forgot more things than i have learned but i am still much more informed thanks to this forum. Im not in as much as i used to be. Work and life have kept me pretty busy. Stick around and enjoy the ride.

Oh got you. When I was starting, I was looking at different forums to use as my central, and I compared THR to Arfcom, as I believe they are the 2 most prolific. Didn't take long to make a decision, for the reasons you stated. Intelligence of the population was my key metric. Here I am.

I am a member of several firearms forums but always feel this is the one that has the most impact on the sport. One month of trying on Barfcom and that was the end of my participation. Ignoring it for 10 years now. Here everyone wants to learn or help others and I appreciate that.

True words. I been hand loading since I was 12, won’t say how many decades ago, and I learn something new - or unlearn something I thought was right but weren’t - every time I look. I lurked for a few years just reading select threads before joining up officially. Never figured I had much to contribute until all this come down and folks started looking for supplies. Been proud to help out.
Keep doing you and thanks for getting involved.

I selfishly came here because of the “where components are” thread.”

But I have learned a lot here, both from asking questions and reading other people’s threads.

It’s unusual for me not to open the reloading section every day, and read all new threads, and threads that have gained a substantial amount of comments.

Never know when you’ll pick up a game changing tidbit.

I appreciate the veterans sharing their knowledge.

I will say that most of the regular members here are decent folk who like to make pretty boolits and then shoot 'em up.

    I agree 100%!!

One sure way to ruin a good thing (or make the job difficult for the moderators) is to tell disrespectful, unappreciative people about it. Besides, lots of people already know EVERYTHING.

    Cheers,

    One or many possible examples:

I just finished loading some 9mm and had to “Makarov” one round which wouldn’t fit in my gauge. I’d never heard of a Makarov nor that one could use a Lee Makarov die as a bulge buster till I read it here.

Having read the tea leaves and realizing that obtaining ammo in Calif was going to be increasingly difficult, I began my reloading adventure a few years ago. Being retired and having more time than money adds to the pleasure in crafting my own hand loads. Finding THR was one of the best things to happen to me on the ammo making journey. It's a unique resource, treasured, I'm sure by all.

I don’t mind trolls, as they are pretty easy to spot and easy to dismiss. Sometimes they’re funny too, so they don’t bug me.

even if you take trolls out of the equation; this site has a depth and breadth of knowledge that pretty much stands alone.

I began the process of hand loading in 2012 by reading everything I could get my hands on.
The archives here were indispensable, and as valuable as any book I have at home.

I've been hanging out here since it started back in December of 2002. I've been on a number of other boards, but this is where I always return. Good people, wealth of information, and I think the mods do a good job of keeping things "High Road." THR helped me back what I was a new reloader and aided my growth into a more serious hand loader. Great to see that others are benefiting as well.

Most reloaders are careful and responsible, so it make sense that the crowd here is squared away.
There are old reloaders and there are careless reloaders, but there are no old careless reloaders. :)

"Boolit" generally refers to cast lead bullets, except when it's used by someone trying to be cute. I assume @BCR#1 is referring to the many pictures hereabouts of powder-coated lead bullets, which is an appropriate reference.
