and not cost $5 per shot.

If you reload you can shoot a .338 Lapua Mag for way less than $5 a round. Without trying too hard you can get the price down to about $1.50 per round. If you get 10 loads out of the brass the price drops to about $1.25 per round. That's not bad for a top tier match load consisting of Lapua brass, a good bullet such as a 250gr Lapua Scenar, a GM215M primer and H1000 powder. Fun ain't always free!

Typical .338 Lapua Magnum reloading costs

Case (based on five firings): $0.53
Bullet: $0.65
Primer: $0.03
Powder (95gr): $0.30

Total per round = $1.51

Carjunkie,

I'm guessing your 300 Win Mag shoots all shots into about 13 to 15 inches at 1000 based on your "most" shots hitting inside 10 inches. Good shooting.

Most interesting is your 2748 fps muzzle velocity with that cartridge and bullet. I would expect the 300 WM would put 208-gr. bullets out at least 2900 fps with a 26" barrel with max safe loads; don't know what your barrel length is. That bullet/velocity drops below the speed of sound (1120.27 ft/s in standard atmosphere) on the trajectory at 1557 Yards. It starts going unstable at about 1500 yards. What's your powder and charge?

I shoot 200-gr. bullets from my .30-.338 with 190/200 gr. bullets over 65/64 grains of IMR4350 getting 2900/2850 fps from its 30" barrel. Shooting each load alternately about 20 to 25 seconds apart (to see how each would perform over 30 shots) starting with a cold/clean barrel, they grouped like this when I tested them:

Inside ring's 10 inches diameter.

If your 'smith trued up the receiver's face, the barrel should fit even all the way around and not walk shots as it heats up. You should be able to shoot many rounds in a string and not see any shots striking away from your aiming point as the barrel heats up.

Bart B thank you for the nice comments. I am running a 24" M24 contour barrel. I fully realize that I could push those bullets faster, but it is so accurate I don't care to push it faster.

I am using 75.3gr of H-1000 in Nosler Brass. I only shoot 3-5 shot stings only because I don't want to "shoot out" this barrel any faster than it already will be.

Mcmxi yes that target you posted would be plenty accurate and come on guys lets keep this on topic.:cuss::cuss::cuss: I don't care how far a tank can shoot. I'm talking about something you can carry so let's say the Barrett at 110 lbs to be the heaviest gun note nothing that is mounted to something else counts.

Where I shoot in the desert we set up targets out to 2000 yards. Guys make hits on it with .408 CT, .338 LM and 50 BMG. One thing you learn fast is that you need heavy match grade bullets as surplus or other standard bullets just won't make it.

We have a range of targets from 100 to 1000 and then skip to different distances out to 2000 yards. It's cool to watch the bullets fly down range when spotting for other shooters. Under the right circumstances you can watch it fly all the way to the target and call adjustments for them.

50 shooter that's cool question do you think 375 cheytac would make it 2,000 yards

Well, seems like a humorous comment in good nature isn't appreciated here. Seems like I saw a moderator making another good natured humorous comment back on page one, but you didn't get your panties in a twist there.

Adios.

Correcting for wind to make a mile long shot can be interesting. For example, a .300 Win Mag shooting a 210-gr HPMK bullet has a maximum ordinate about 45 feet above the horizontal line of sight. If the wind measures 5 mph a foot above the ground among trees in the woods where the barrel is, it'll be 15 mph at the highest point in the trajectory. Lesser amounts at lower points; about 7 mph on open land with flat ground. The wind doesn't blow the same speed from ground up to some height and the more and higher obstructions in the terrain are, the higher the wind speeds will be above where your anemometer measures them.

And they're not the same at all points down range. Those closest to the firing point have more effect than those closest to the target.

Horsemen, I do contract video work for GAP still, not full time. They are pretty swamped with production always, and videos making more orders just adds to the lead time :D

I have a 32" barrel and shoot 300 grain Berger hybrids at 3150. My h2o capacity is 132 grains with Lapua brass, a considerable gain.
