I have a .223 suppressor with 1/2 by 28 threads. If I thread the barrel of my 5.45 WASR-2, is there any reason I could not use the .223 on it? 5.45 is very close to 5.56, yes? Has anyone done this? Anyone using a suppressor on a 5.45 rifle? Has anyone used a threading kit to allow use of a suppressor? Is this too risky? Comments?

Thanks,

I have done this with my SAR2 and had very good results after some modifications to the gas system.

I do caution you on one thing in your post that caught my eye: please do not use a threading kit. Instead send the gun out to be professionally threaded by a gunsmith or machinist that understands that barrel threads MUST be concentric to the bore and has the proper setup to handle this on his lathe.

I recommend Tornado Technologies for the threading job, they've threaded a few of my guns and I am greatly pleased with their work and attention to detail.

5.45x39 is smaller in diameter than .223 (or 5.56x45 as it is also known), so the 223 suppressor will work well.

Here is my thread on silencertests.com detailing my SAR2 modifications for best results.

One of these days when it is sunny in Oregon, I'll take some pictures and post them in that thread.

Hope this helps
