Throw out some 9mm suggestions for my wife.

By far my favorite 9mm is my CZ 75 PCR. Fits just about every hand, lightweight and accurate. Another good choice would be a Sig 225. Good luck I hope she can find something she likes.

If she likes the 1911, Browning Hi-power might be a good fit. That said, I'm a big fan of my Taurus 92, especially if she's not going to carry it.

I recently posted a similar question and got lots of good advice and solid opinions, but I think the most valuable piece of advice was to handle (and shoot, if possible) as many as possible and go with what feels best. Let us know what she picks!

This.

Compact, lightweight alloy, hicap 9MM. Accurate, reliable, good range gun, good home defense gun, and pretty easy to carry, and conceal. Does it all.

Others to consider:

Browning Hi Power
CZ P-01 (alloy like the PCR)
CZ P-07 (polymer)
HK P7 (my wife's favorite)
HK USP Compact/P2000/P30
Glock G19
Sig P228/P229

Thanks for the suggestions thus far everyone. Some were already on our list to look at, some I never would have thought to consider. Now to get them in her hands and see what they feel like to her.

I have a modified CZ PCR (Pro Tek I) and would highly recommend you check out this gun. I use it for carry purposes but I suspect it will fit smaller hands perfectly. If you can find one in person, I would highly recommend letting her hold one and see how she likes it. Also, don't be afraid if the trigger on a new one feels heavy or rough. Some new CZ's can be a "diamond in the rough" when it comes to the trigger (lots of grit and/or hammer camming) but there's a lot you can do or have done to improve the triggers. It's relatively inexpensive work and these guns are absolutely fantastic when done right.

I would suggest a .22 first to save the wallet and also to help her with fundamentals. A buckmark camper is lightweight and she will like it.

As for a 9mm I would suggest a 299.99 ATI 92c from CDNN. It is a copy of the beretta 92c and they are fantastic for the money. It just happens to be what I am harping about right now after buying one. They are heavy so that will help with recoil(mine seems to have hardly any).

Otherwise everything else I would recommend has already been said.. I would get a bit specific and say the M&P pro or M&P 9L(longslide).

I already own one. She has shot it a bunch and while finding it fun, wants a 9mm. Same as most of us, she likes the bigger boom.

If you want an intermediate size gun, I would say Glock 19, Kahr CW9, M&P9c, Ruger SR9c. If you want a full size one then I would say M&P9, CZ75, Sig 226 (if you don't mind dropping about $800, my favorite gun, though)

Make sure you have her check trigger reach, in addition to 'how the gun feels in her hands'.
A few of the guns mentioned, for instance, some of the CZs, have such a long double action trigger pull, that they just won't work for me. They feel good, but I can't reach the trigger without rotating the gun in my hand. No good.
SIG P225 is in that boat, too.

If it's a range gun, couldn't she just cock it before the first shot? All the traditional DA/SA guns offer the option of going with the shorter and lighter SA pull all the time. I often shoot my Browning BDM that way if I'm trying to shoot a group.

Yeah, just have her pull the hammer back on the first shot. Many CZ are designed for single action carry also as they have the ability to carrry cocked and locked. The 75B, CZ Steel frame Compact, among others.

Of course that is an option. But some folks enjoy being able to learn a good DA trigger pull, just as a matter of general gun skills, as they would with any shooting technique.

Up to her I guess, but I will be suggesting that she look first at guns that fit her hand.

Two guns that my petite wife enjoyed are the CZ P-01 and the S&W M&P 9c. Both fit her hand well. Both shoot well for her. She preferred the full metal CZ P-01, saying she could hit someone with it if she ran out of bullets.

S&W M&P9 compact. My wife has one and it is "her" gun. Seriously she tried so many others, can't hardly shoot a Glock, but shoots that M&P as if she actually practices regularly. It's not too big for her, but handles like a full size with the OEM grip extensions on the magazines. Soft recoil too.

I enjoy my M&P, my wife enjoys her Sigma.

The more I handle it, the more I like my old man's lil' Bersa Thunder. His is .380 but it's rather well made, and it's running smoothly now that he's fed it a few hundred rounds. .

They have 9mm versions,.40 and .45 versions under $400, seriously underused guns for the price point. I was there as my LGS unboxed the .45 and got to feel it out.

It felt... Tempting...

If she likes full sized pistols that are soft shooting it's hard to beat the SR9 for the money. Mine's been absolutely dependable and very accurate. If she want's to carry it in a purse or whatever then take a look at the SR9c as already mentioned. Great gun for the money. Ruger really made a nice pair of shooters with these two.
