I know I've seen thumb break IWB holsters for the 'hammerless' J-frame Smith & Wessons, such as the 442 and 642. Searching the websites of every holster maker I could think of turned up nothing, however.

Anyone know of an IWB holster w/ a retention strap for the hammerless snubbie?

I've seen them too, but don't know if they are still in production. The only place for a retention strap to fit over on these smooth-backed revolvers is the back of the trigger guard. When you need your gun fast and now, it is likely you will trap the strap between your hand and the trigger guard when drawing.

I've seen the ones with the strap on the back of the trigger guard. I didn't find that very appealing. A holster is supposed to protect the trigger guard... that one seems like it would poke itself into the trigger guard each time the weapon was holstered.

I swear I've seen at least one holster that had a traditional retention strap, but it was situated on the heel of the weapon, right where the grip ends and the gun begins.

The holster I saw (or thought I saw) had a strap that went right over the screw at the back of the gun, just above the grip.

My mom has one made by a local, purchased at a gun show years and years ago... the retention strap is on the trigger guard and the leather is stiffened by a link from a motorcycle chain (genious if you ask me) so when you grab the grip you point you index finger and pop the snap with your middle finger, and then your middle finger just finishes the normal grasp of the grip... works very, very well, sorry, I don't know who made it or where to get one. If this sound interesting let me know I will get some pics for you, it's not a tough pattern from the looks of it.

Triple K holsters has them.
It's the #420 holster.
The thumb strap snaps behind the trigger guard for a 442/642 etc.
Works well, I have one.

I have suggested that Don Hume holster linked above to a few friends and they like it. This DeSantis holster is a good deal too and it's comfortable. Even though it doesn't come stock with the Thumb Break strap it's available from DeSantis, Look Here.

Uncle Mikes has one for the Taurus mod 85CH that has the strap over the pistol where the hammer would be,I assume they make one for the " J" frame. jwr

I have a little Uncle Mike's holster I got from Cabela's for our dog training blank pistol. Last night, I shoved the 642 into it, and it worked quite well. Cheap, too, with a strap that works like a thumb break.
