I purchased an M&P compact last month as a backup duty weapon. We are required to carry the full size M&P, so the compact seemed like a good choice for a backup. So far it has had about 400 flawless rounds through it.

As I was packing up to hit the range before work today, something just didn't seem right as I took the gun out of the safe to put in the holster. A closer look revealed my gun no longer has a front sight. At some point between shooting it on Friday (when it had a front sight for sure) and this morning, with about 4 trips in and out of the holster and safe, the front sight drifted itself out.

I wasn't pleased . . . the gun is less than 2 months old and has barely been shot. I gathered up my receipts and called S&W, expecting a long turn around as I would likely have to send my slide in to have a new sight installed.

S&W customer service gave me the option of emailing me a prepaid overnight label so that I could ship my slide to them or just overnighting me a new night sight. They asked for no serial number, no receipt or proof of purchase . . . just my name and address. I should have a new sight by tomorrow.

Although not pleased that the sight fell off in the first place, you can't beat the service. I'll be carrying my 642 as a backup this evening.

Their customer service is superb.

Unfortunately, they need it. I bought a brand new no-lock 442 and the crown was messed up and it keyholed bullets. They sent me a label and pick up and everything no charge--great. When it came back 3-4 weeks later, it had a new barrel--so far so good. However, the cylinder scraped on the new barrel and the revolver had bare metal showing at the joint where the barrel meets the frame. (Not sure if it was aluminum or steel) They sent out another label and assumably fixed the problems, but I sold it as soon as it came back refinished and didn't look too close. (Another 3-4 weeks.) Great customer service or not, I'm not into 8+ weeks of waiting for a (possibly) functional firearm.

I won't even consider buying new S&Ws anymore, unless I hear of improvements to their system. I hope they fix your problem.

My wife finally got tired of the grit in her Sigma's trigger and telling me that it will smooth out over time.

E-mailed S&W on Sunday over the Holiday weekend, they had their response in her E-mail this morning telling her to file for the free shipping label.

First time having a gun serviced by S&W, rather than a local gunsmith, I can't wait to see how the process flows.

I guess they figure they can trust you. After all, hard to imagine teen pranksters calling S&W simply to collect small gun parts.
