I'd like to pick up a T3 lite in 223, and I had a few questions here. The price and the reputation these rifles have drawn my attention long enough. Would this rifle in .223 be ok for the range and occasional varmint hunting?

What kind of glass do you have on your T3- .223 or otherwise? What kind of rings do you like? I was thinking about the DNZ one piece mount and a Zeiss conquest of some sort.

Bought one in SS for the wife on her birthday. Nice, smooth action, 1:8 twist, wears a 2-7x Nikon (using factory rings), and will shoot three rounds of Black Hills 69 Match HPs into 1/2 inch. We are quite happy with it. I may mount a higher magnification scope (Leupold) at some point.

Good Luck.

Ditch the rings and get something solid on permanent bases. You don't buy a nice gun and nice optics to take chances on cheap rings. The gun, I highly recommend. :)

Tikka in this part of the world has a good rep (New Zealand)a close friend of mine owns a local gun and hunting shop so i guess i am in a lucky position to be able to try before i buy,i am a bit of a .223 nut so before my last purchase which was a Savage weather warrior with accutrigger and accustock wearing a Kahles 3x9x40, i did a few comparisons and to be honest for value for money (remember i arent up on your US prices) the Savage out of the box accuracy kicked a*** (less than 1" moa straight out of the box) and being 1-9 twist you can stabilise the bigger pills, although i am pretty much hooked on the Hornady 55gr sst ballistic tip,we often hunt in adverse weather so the stainless synthetic option is also a bonus. The Howa 1500s are also worth a look as is the CZ527 American both fine rifles but they are both 1-12 twists so great for 55grns but you dont have the heavier pill option which i like to have over here for hunting our Fallow deer.As for Tikka yes they are good rifles apart from the plastic mags which seem to be a regular replacement item amongst Tikka owners, imho there are far better options as in Savage,CZ, Remington or Howa, with Savage accustock at the top of the list, cheers, keep the wind in your face and your powder dry.
