I'm getting a Tikka T3 Lite in the very near future. I'm choosing a 243 and the barrel has a 1:10. Does anyone happen to to have this rifle? Any suggestions on which types/brands commerical ammo I should start with?
The rifle will be used to chase coyotes so I'd really prefer using lighter bullets.

Thanks!

I recently bought a Kimber 84M Montana in .243 with a 1:10 twist, 22" barrel. I spoke with Kimber and they say the Hornady Varmint Express 58 Grain V-Max Moly is "exceptionally accurate". I have not tried them myself but you may have good luck with the Tikka since the characteristics are similar to the Kimber.

Specifications look close enough, I'll order a box or two of the Hornady Vmax, I was hoping those might work....

Depends on what you want to shoot, Vermin or big game. 1-10 is good for the heavier bullets and still good with the lighter ones.

The slower twist of 1-12 is what killed the .244 rem they changed the twist to 1-10 for the same case and called it the 6mm rem and even then it never became as popular as the slower .243 win. All do to the twist.

The 1:10 twist will stabilize the lighter bullets just fine. I'll second the Hornady varmint express ammo. It shoots great in my Sako.

Joel;

I shoot a .243 diameter, but it's called the 6mm Remington. Two bullets that have worked very well for me are: The Speer 90 grain spitzer for game animals. And the Hornady 75 gr V-Max for coyotes.

I've taken both whitetail and mule deer with the Speer. I've had the bullet hit bone & keep on drillin'. Longest shot was about 175 yards max & the muzzle velocity was under 3100 fps in all cases. This is a tough bullet that shoots well in my gun & works 'bout as good as it gets on game.

The Hornady 75 grain V-Max is simply a stellar performer in my gun. The accuracy is, given me doing my part, sub .5 inch. The results on a coyote have to be seen. I don't hunt for hide, which is a good thing considering how very D-E-A-D it makes 'em.
